Just got back from the emergency room. My dad and I and my brother in law went for a dog walk, and we were all drinking some whisky before - we found a park and my brother in law was trying to do some American Ninja warrior **** on a set of bars and wasn't doing too well, and then my dad (always a competitive concept) tried and lost his grip, fell on his back, and hit his head on a railroad tie that was kinda bounding the sandbox he landed in, split his head open a bit, this on his vacation. :fu: Had to take him into the ER for some xrays and stitches, he said he was fine and his xray turned out ok, but he had to get 6 stitches put in. They told him not take any painkillers for 24 hrs, I guess so that he figures out if he's hurt anywhere else by tomorrow. He will probably be feeling it tomorrow.

On the upside, the Japanese hospital system is pretty good about routine medical needs like this and he was treated very quickly and well, and with no insurance here he got xrays, stitches, and a little mix of prescriptions for $500 in a nice calm and clean hospital ER. That's not cheap, but given the circumstances I feel it went over pretty well.

thanks dudes, he should be okay. Just gotta do some more relaxing things this week we have left. I, on the other hand, keep hurting my legs and my ankles, might have arthritis. :fu: I get swollen joints that turn red like every month now, and I think I pulled a leg muscle when I had to sprint home tonight. :fu: Hobbling like a cripple right now. Drinking some whisky, alpha and omega for the night.

My own dad should be fine, he was smiles the whole way through til we got him home to bed. My father in law is not doing so well though, has prostate cancer and can barely sit down for too long before he starts hurting. We are having a big family lunch tomorrow and father in law can't come, he is down at his house alone for the next week or so.

thing that seems to work the best for me is hot water soaks as much as possible, and counterintuitively, working out regularly. Not like power lifting or anything, just making sure I'm using the joint in a way that exercises the muscles that make it go. Naproxen seems to be the best anti inflammatory, but you really want to avoid taking it daily.

Good luck with everything.

I hate when women pull this stuff. This exact situation happens constantly with my girlfriend. She has no concept of time and how long it takes to get places. When I recommend cabs she baulks at the price.

Girls are usually more than happy when I offer taking a cab. I do pay for the fare though.

My girlfriend has this weird thing about money and how much things cost. She really has no idea how much money i make and what i can and can't afford. She doesn't get that a $12 cab ride is meaningless to me and worth my time.

So I've realized that there isn't that much to talk about in the world. Go to any sort of pub/restaurant etc and look at all the couples/people sitting together and note how many of them really don't talk.

I don't know why but that depresses me and is one reason I don't want to get married. Don't know why but I would hate myself if I ever became one those people.

Oh, also, two work-related things.

Had an event to go to that started a few hours, I got into it but like, I called the people on Friday at 0900 as soon as their office opened. They were like email our comms guy and our general email and that'll be the best way to sort out the protocol and we'll get back to you today. No answer. I call on Saturday leave a voicemail with the 24 hour cover. No response. Call again today, same thing, no response. Go to the switchboard and they can't help. 15 minutes before the event, I get an email from the comms guy not really answering any of my questions. I got that as I was walking in the door. Thanks, dude.

Me: I have two halfway-complete stories which means I have one story.
Editor: No, it means you have zero stories.

WTF kind of bullshit-ass logic is that from my boss?
