I know the people I directly report to don't know my pay either. The HR/Operations people would have that info and the people at the top who set bonuses would probably know...but the people I work for most of the time don't know.
Really. Well I learned something new today. I know the salaries of all the people in my group and in my situation, I have to because I'm responsible for my S&B budget while at the same time making competitive job offers, raises and bonuses. I thought all department head-type managers or above would need to know and do this

Ah...we don't really have departments in our core business. Maybe the manager in filing/records or the office services department knows what their underlings are paid, but I think they have structured the job descriptions of the billable staff in such a way that they don't have to spend any time on non-revenue-generating activities.

I would assume that different offices operate independently (although there must be some level of central budgeting and shifting of the bonus pool considering there are a lot of projects that involve teams from more than one office)...but within an office, everything is pretty much just handled at the top.

The people above me go to a meeting where they justify my existence, but a committee of people above them deal with the actual numbers.

Yes, I know what everyone makes. I don't remember what everyone makes so I call HR when I need to know.

Why? That's one of my favorite pieces from that Hawaii-theme summer collection. What pisses you off about it? Is there something that I'm missing here that may cause you to be offended by a trompe l'oeil of a lei on top of a classic army print tee?

Wife bought fine sea salt instead of kosher salt. My fault for not specifying, but I am picky so I had to make a late supermarket run in the pouring rain.

It is a term used by people who want you to know that they have people who work directly for them. They rarely mention the fact that they are the direct report of someone else.

Not pissed off about this, but relevant to the thread of conversation. I have acquired a certain number of years on this planet of Earth, but not until today have I seen the chain of words "offended by a trompe l'oeil of a lei." I am going to try to find a context IRL where it would make sense to repeat that chain of words.

Holy shit I just realized how brilliant that is. Thanks, Linc!

I am not trying to start controversy or strife, but it is hard to find a floral print shirt for men that is not "tacky" or "gauche."

Is that a real phrase? What does it mean? I'll say it in court tomorrow (today) is it is.
