Sorry to hear about your friend, LD. I've known a few people that drank their way to death and it's not pretty.

As I said, not a terribly close friend, but definitely a good egg.

sad to hear... what exactly caused her death?

Thanks." (To others as well.) Not sure. She'd moved back east several years back so our only contact was sporadic email/FB stuff. Her husband posted something on FB to let her friends, many of whom are here in CA, of her death. He just said she'd struggled with alcoholism for a number of years and it finally took her life. The alcoholism was news to me, but several folks posted stuff about going to meetings with her.

The morning is the best time in the world. 6 am in July is the greatest time to be alive.

I went into work on Monday in the afternoon to drop off some Nespresso capsules that I bought. It was my day off and everybody was all, hey hey whoa whoa what are you doing here! The new intern asked me if I put on a suit just because I was coming in to drop off coffee to which I say, hey hey whoa whoa I was just lounging at the beach young man, I am no reject of society falling apart at the seams like you!

Does this mean that you are no longer the answer to "what's Behind The Green Door?"

I think there is a dichotomy of people in this world: those who prefer to do things on their own and those who ask for help with EVERYTHING even if getting help makes it more difficult for everybody involved.

I can't stand working with the latter.

I see that in the lab a lot. You've got people who just try something and see if they can get it working, and people who want confirmation on everything. Ups and downs to either. When you group 'em up, every combination has something going for it except two people who want confirmation. It slows work to a CRAWL, because they're now independently raising separate issues that need confirmation, and neither is confident enough to act as confirmation for the other.

It will be the last time as well.

Poasters who are not L'inc, are not L'inc.

I don't eat either often, but for what it's worth they can vary widely due to preparation, etc. - even more so than real food. I generally wouldn't choose a meal in which they were the centerpiece, but I've found them to be perfectly fine in certain contexts. (E.g., in scrambled eggs, a stir fry, or something like that they can work. A big tempeh steak or seitan crudo, not so much.)

Yeah, I've had some pretty dang good seitan made by a ardent vegan (who doesn't care for vegetables)...I've also had some pretty awful flavorless mush from a whole foods hot bar.
