He doesn't understand what we do because he is new. When he goes to a meeting and comes back to give us some things we need to work on it is always things he should have pushed back on, or he doesn't quite understand it so he can't explain it well to us. I feel like he is utterly useless and slows down any sort of progress. He also is a nazi about time, and being in the office at certain hours. Nickels and dimes you and if you have to take off he always winces. Partially because I think he's afraid somebody will think he is being lenient with his employees time (everything I think steps from fear of the uppers with this guy) and partially because if he gets asked a question I won't be there to answer it because he knows nothing. Anyway I think my attitude shows, but I hope it doesn't affect my performance review, which in the past have always been stellar. It is a shame because he is a really nice guy, but I think he is useless as a boss.
Ah shit, who am I kidding, I got "exceeds expectations".

they should've promoted you to boss

Well it would seem he's not such a bad guy after all? Good judge of character if nothing else.

We talked about some things he wants to do in the group that I actually think will be beneficial. Mainly improving communications and presenting challenges internally to the group and externally to other departments to help get new ideas and improve things.

I still want to strangle him though.

Maybe because they don't understand it?

Really?

Lip service -- bullshit non-answers & fluffy statements that Execs pass on to their underlings.

Improving communication is one of the great business fallacies.

I hate HKIA-JFK (vice versa) flights.

I'm sure there are worse flights I've yet to take (like JFK to Australia or something). But 15hours in an airplane fucking sucks.
^ if your in biz class it's no problem. otherwise from the east coast I would always catch a day or two in LA before heading to TPE or HKG... much more bearable breaking it up if you're stuck in coach. additionally, i would NEVER fly a US based carrier. to HKG always China Airlines, or Cathay, possibly Malaysia. being on a plane for 14 hours is one thing. being stuck on some shitty American Airlines or Delta plane for 14 hours is a whole 'notha level of a unique form of hell.
