Was going to do some Christmas shopping tonight, but we've got a threat of wintry mix.

Managed to do Crimmus shopping. Almost done (missing my present and that for my secret santa). Not quite sure what to get for the remaining gifts. Also managed to buy most of the food for Crimmus Eve and Crimmus (missing some fishes and my Crimmus Morning BaconCheeseburger). Now I have to motivate to clean while the tree twinkles and Andrea Bocelli sings songs.

In all my earthyears I've never once been called a "Southern man" (no I do not listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd or say tuhmaytuh). I wonder if you are confusing me with Rachel of jlc?

I am cleaning my apartment to the sounds of Miles Davis' 1983 LP goes by the name "Star People."

You're from Wisconsin, are you not? I have family in much of the South, and Missouri seems pretty South to me. (Maybe not so much St. Louis, but I've only been there once.)

FWIW, aside from the SEC's expansion to include Mizzou (which most SEC football fans criticized as an expansion beyond the region), Missouri isn't the South to any of the Southerners I know (me included).

I think parts of Missouri to the west and south of St. Louis could reasonably be described as culturally southern. (I am painting with a broad brush here.) But St. Louis itself really isn't southern at all.

Today I decided I wanted to rearrange my apartment (unit in condo building). But I was thwarted because I don't have any furniture, therefore nothing to move around. I wonder if it's worth buying furniture just so's I can rearrange it?

If you weren't a slave state you weren't southern.

To me, roughly, the southern states are the CSA states.

Agreed, which places Missouri on par with Kentucky WRT "Southernness." Neither seceded, though there were attempts in both to make it happen. Kentucky isn't really Southern, either, though there are areas where it is culturally influenced by the South, much like you're describing parts of Missouri. So, basically, a bit of Southern influence in areas that are contiguous to former CSA states, but not the South.
