Fuck other people.

And to add insult to the whole thing, it seems every other boat like this one sold this weekend.

What kind of boat? Thought you were interested in a J/80...but that doesn't sound like the kind of interactions surrounding a sale of that size.

J/80. There were two around Westchester that sold this week. There are two in New England and one in Rochester. I can't believe someone bought that boat 2 hours after seeing it in a driveway but I guess they really wanted it. It's going to take some road trips to find one now!

It's odd that he seemed to have no interest in starting a bid thing.

i'm pissed off that every time my wife and I walk into an REI we ended up wasting a lot of time and money.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
we're going on vacation soon to brazil and she's paranoid about crime involving pickpockets and what not. so we "need" these bags called Pacsafe that have metal lined straps and lots of hooks on the zippers. Also RFID protectors for our IDs/Passports. jeeze.

we also lived a long time in Manila, which probably has more savvy pickpockets/thieves/swindlers per capita in the world but we never needed special Packsafe bags there because if someones' going to hold you at knifepoint/gunpoint you just hand over you shit.

Tonight I accidentally locked my girlfriend out of her apartment. She has two locks on her door: a deadbolt that she has the key for on top and a lock on the doorknob where you press a button down from the inside. I locked the bottom one before we went out to grab dinner. Well I found out there is no key for the bottom lock when we got back around 8. We called the building's maintenance and the wonderful asshats there said this wasn't an emergency and basically said we're fucked and had to call a locksmith.

So I googled locksmith and ended up calling the first entry (which is an ad) I saw in the search as it was open 24/7 and I figure most locksmiths aren't open at 8pm on Saturday night. What caught my eye on the ad was that it said:

$15 Palo Alto locksmith
24/7 Mobile Locksmith in 15 Min.
Affordable Rates Call Now!
www.preferredlocksmith.net

So I called the number. The operator said it is a $15 service call and generally a $45 charge for picking the lock but the technician would let me know if it cost more. I'm thinking $60 is really cheap and I figured they would probably list other fees and charge around $100 but I still had them come out. The guy gets out here and says that it is $179 to open the door and the only way to get in is to drill the lock and I would need to replace the lock too for $69. WTF.

Having already waited 45 minutes I'm not going to call other places to price shop so I told him to just drill the lock. So he takes out his drill with 1/8" bit and drilled into the lock twice opening the door. The whole thing only took 7 seconds and I got a bill for $194. The place is misleading as fuck making people think the bill would only be $60 which I never believed in the first place, but I didn't expect the bill to be almost $200.

Then to top it off the guy said his credit card machine isn't working and asked us for cash or check. You know this asshole was just going to pocket the money. Then on the invoice he rips the paper so that the name of the company he works for isn't there. I called the place up again and complained calling them a rip off but they wouldn't budge on the price. My girlfriend ended up writing them a check and I am paying her back.

Is there anything you can do in a situation like this? I didn't think I could refuse payment after I told the guy to drill the lock and my girlfriend didn't want me to screw him on payment since he knows where she lives. Haha. Everything about it was shady. I am reporting the ad to google saying it's misleading and shady but I doubt they will do anything about it. Is there anything else I could do?

Or at least to get back at the assholes can you click on the link a bunch of times so they have to pay styleforum ad money. The website is www.preferredlocksmith.net

Dude, learn how to lock pick. Nothing impresses them more than being able to lock pick into their apartment when she locked herself out. It's stupid easy. I can do most locks with a paper clip and a Swiss Army knife.

They took 1.5 hours to do the damned oil change. Also, they called while I was waiting and told me that one of my tires needed a plug because there was a nail in it. No big deal; get it done. When I picked up the car, I checked the tire they'd plugged, and I discovered another nail. This one was at the edge of the tread, basically in the sidewall, which means it can't be safely plugged. So, I ended up having to buy a new tire and throw away the one I'd just paid to plug (suffice it to say, I didn't buy the tire at that shop).

Oh, and they still have my wife's car. We're at four hours and counting post-appointment for a fucking front brake job. They also tried to upsell me on the brake job, which drives me insane. I don't need the ultra-super-platinum-racecar brakes for my wife's econobox that is on the highway commuting 80% of its life. Just put something on that will make it stop.

I hate mechanics. This has been a huge reminder why I do my own work.

THIS is why I only have my clunker touched by my friend's shop, even though they're kinda specializes in old mercedes benzes (mine's a mitsubishi)

Where are you going in Brazil, I think @globetrotter will agree with this, but I never felt unsafe in Sao Paulo, not even walking around at night piss drunk.

I've been 5 days gluten free (no beer, although I've read a a lot of stuff saying beer might be gluten free for the most part) and I guess I feel a bit better. I've definitely had days where I wake up after drinking a lot beers and been way more than hungover. Really sinusy and feeling extra terrible. I also started feeling really plugged up after eating a potbelly sandwich with wheat bread last week. So I'm pissed off I might have to do some pretty life changing things with regards to my diet.

I have the same thing and I feel so much better, when I don't eat/drink milk and grain.

It will be another 70 hour, six day week. The only good will be how happy it makes my long term employees to attend their annual tenured dinner this week and how good I'm going to feel when this entire week is done.

i've said it before, and in this very thread, but my next career move just might be in the locksmithing business.

@LawrenceMD i know your wife won't care about this (irrational fear) but I've been to Brazil, Rio specifically, multiple times. Its a safe city. If you're that paranoid about your passports put them in your hotel's safe. You're not going to get robbed unless you go to the favelas. And as you said about Manila, if someone's going to do something, its going to be shoving a gun in your face or stopping your taxi. That's about it.
