A few weeks ago my father told me that Jackie Chan was dead and I was sad. Now, I find out that Jackie Chan is still alive and now I am mad.

Yep. Mad dumb. Overweight people here either..

  1. Believe being obese is something admirable
  2. Behave like victims.

Some women have adopted this rationalization that women are "supposed" to be bigger. They reference old paintings and talk about their curves and blah blah blah. All it is is backlash against thin women, and a rationalization, a poor one at that. Women in old paintings are bigger because most women who were painted were rich and fat. Paintings have nothing to do with proper nutrition. I am sure all our humble cave women back in the day wore size 16 dresses.

I have heard he was between life and death after a stunt gone wrong...

I didn't really look into it to be fair.

This shit cracks me up. "Love the skin you're in! Even if it's stretched out!"

"Rubenesque" women aren't all that big anyway. Well under the current "big woman" standard.

Also I accidentally Google Image Searched "Rubenesque" with Safe Search off while at work. I may be reporting back to this thread after my termination for accidentally viewing nude orcas.

True Story: I once stayed in a hotel in Zhengzhou, China (Henan Province) on the same floor, and likely just a few doors down, from Jackie Chan. The hotel was totally buzzing and I was hoping to run into him in the hallway but I never saw him.

Maybe True Story: Several mainland Chinese I know, normal people in China's rising middle class, have sworn up and down to me that it is common Chinese knowledge that Jackie Chan is actually a big organized crime boss. Googling this ("Jackie Chan Triad Boss" or similar) in English turns up about a million movie reviews but nothing that suggests he might actually be a member of organized crime. I don't get the impression they're yanking my chain, though of course you never know. I do know that sometimes the lines of morality are on a much more slippery slope in the East, so I can imagine a scenario under which this is sort of true, but I don't know if I'm just squinting my eyes to see a truth I want to see.

This one I kind of get. Actually, the whole, "I'm embracing the way my body has changed after carrying a child*" thing is fine by me. I mean, these women have carried a human life, and that process has indelibly changed them, physically and emotionally. I don't really have a problem with those women embracing, rather than feeling shame over, the ways such a momentous event has altered their bodies.

*Note: I'm talking about things like stretch marks and other changes they can't control. Stuff like completely letting oneself go and blaming it on "baby weight" is not okay.

Its illegal here as well, but if you don't say it's because you are fat/smelly/stupid/muslim/pregnant etc. , they can't do anything about it. wink.gif
