Things that are pissing you off. - Page 3140

My phone decided to brick yesterday. Out of nowhere, the screen went blank and it went into an infinite loop of vibrating every three seconds with a black screen. Nothing gets it to work right. It seems there's a known issue with Galaxy S2s where the power button gets wonky and basically makes it impossible to boot.

Sure about that? A quick Google search suggests that there are various possible fixes, including flashing the firmware, doing a factory reset etc, which makes it very unlikely to be a mechanical defect. Do you still have guarantee?

I realize that I do this to myself but still..... ffffuuuu.gif
I just returned home an hour ago from a trip to Asia and experienced this phenomenon over and over again at multiple airports. I'm all about efficiently getting in and out; yet, others are not. Even worse, they have the audacity to get an attitude when I go around them. Just as bad is when people don't remove their bins and bags immediately after it is scanned. It really ticks me off when people stand there holding up everyone else as they put their shoes on and empty the bins. I always grab my bags and bins and get away from the conveyor as soon as they come through.

I can't recall ever removing my watch at an airport.

It would be cruel to fire professors on the spot, since they couldn't realistically get work for next year.)
It's unfortunate when this happens, but with pretenure reviews in the 5 years prior, it rarely should come as a surprise. Still upsetting though.

^ I'm looking to get an iPod to keep in my car so I don't constantly have to hook up my phone whenever I drive.

Also, my interface doesn't recognize the iPhone 5 (that's the primary reason why I'm getting the old iPod shog[1].gif).
You're telling me a BMW M5 can't stream Bluetooth?

I can't be 100% certain what the problem is, but a factory reset doesn't work. I can't get far enough into the boot process to do anything software related.

Also, like I said, there's a well-known mechanical issue with the Galaxy S2 that causes this to happen. Some people can get it to boot just by messing with the power button enough, but others have had to replace the button. I've also read about people for whom none of those options work.

I'm out of warranty, but still under contract, which is pretty much at the nexus of cell phone hell.

Either way, if you're a little tech savvy, I'd have a look at Odin and flashing the firmware first. Might help. Take a look at forum.xda-developers.com or so.

I might be misunderstanding something here, but how do I flash the firmware if I can't get into download mode?
Honestly, I'm no expert, but you might be able to get into the download mode with key a key combination, then connect the phone to your PC and flash it with Odin. If that doesn't work, there's a USB jig or so that might work in case the key combo doesn't. Here's how you flash a SIII with odin, for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
Can you get the files from your phone with Kies? There are key combinations to perform a hard reset. Have you tried them?
Yeah, I tried the key combo both for a hard reset and download mode. I did read about the USB jig, so that might be my next approach.

I can't get to it with Kies. OTA doesn't work because the phone has to be up and running, and I tried plugging it in via USB, to no avail.

Best I can tell, I need to find a way to get the phone to ignore the input from the power button so I can get it to boot (or just replace the button).
