Do you really want to get fired already for being the new guy on the job who managed to rack up a multimillion dollar bill in just two days with a firm that adds no value?!

well there's this reddish burgundy color too but everyone's bought into that. so it's just the other two colors that are in question

here's what someone said, verbatim - "i normally don't care about format, but I have to tell you, I used this format in my presentation to exec A and he found it much more compelling. we also need to differentiate ourselves from department X's formats which look similar to the other format. I'd just like to ensure that our people in the field do not get confused about where the message is coming from"

another thing that's pissing me off is that I found out our field agents are so stupid that they wouldn't know who sent them something if the colors are not different - despite all these documents having, you know, title pages and shit

I was in DC this week and it felt like I was in Florida. Then I remembered it was just DC and I was there for work ffffuuuu.gif I had that one moment of sleep-deprived delusion though.

My hometown is so small that the ambulance service is volunteer. My dad's been on it for nearly a decade and now heads it. The head of the town ambulance board is a millionaire farmer. A millionaire because every year he gets six digits of taxpayer dollars in grants and farming subsidies. Apparently at the last board meeting he told my dad that by wanting to wash the ambulance once a month he was taking advantage and wasting taxpayer dollars. ffffuuuu.gifpuzzled.gif

Never mind, b1os already made the joke - and with better execution.

Did you know that the majority of agriculture subsidies goes to tobacco farmers. Ridiculous.

Doesn't seem smart to pick a fight with the only person around that can provide emergency services if you need them

We went directly from late winter to early summer. No spring for us.

Eh, it'll probably mellow out a bit soon. Supposed to be mid-60s next week. Still feels weird, like we had snow recently and now I'm wearing short sleeves out of necessity.

This one sort of makes sense. They are in a rush to get the game out and hit their release date. The game has to go to the dvd printers WAY in advance in order to get enough copies made and distributed around the world so that you can buy it when it comes out.

Since these consoles are all internet-connected now, the developers can keep working on improving/fixing bugs all of the way up (and past) release date. An extra month or two of improvements is probably good since I doubt you want to play the bug-ridden mess they threw together for the dvd pressing.

On other kinds of software updates though...I agree. Nobody wants to update when they open the app. Also nobody wants to have to run an updater app for every thing (how much slowdown is caused by having Adobe Updater, Itunes Updater, Office Updater, and 20 other things running). Spotify has kind of a nice solution in that it slurps down the update and then prompts you to restart Spotify if you want to install the update (so you can let it run for days without interruption if you want). Maybe a better option would be a menu that says "Update Available, Choose: Update Now / Update When I Exit / Remind me Later".

My linux computer is much better about this. The package manager checks for updates for almost everything on the system (including things from 3rd party repositories that have been added) and occasionally reminds me that there are 87 outstanding updates. Sometimes I will click on that reminder right before I leave for work and let it plow through the updates instead of just going to sleep (although it usually only takes a few minutes).

My android phone (and iphones) work in a similar way...but only through apps bought directly from the apple/google stores. If they don't get their 30% cut, you don't get integrated updates since there is no way to add additional sources to the store.

Yea I understand why there's a release day patch. I'm more pissed about how slow the ps3 download servers are. ffffuuuu.gif
