Seriously man? It's 2013 and your cab accepts credit cards. Take my money and STFU.

Yeah, that annoys me too. They have to accept cards. Don't like it? Don't drive a cab. Don't bitch at me about it.

Seriously! I understand they get hit with a processing charge so I always tip 25 - 30% to compensate when the guy gives me no hassles and is a nice guy who doesn't drive like a fucking maniac.

There was this one guy who gave me grief and said his cc machine wasn't working. He attempted to display said "fact" by button mashing the gizmo he had in the front that prompts the cc screen. Well, I told him I didn't have cash (I did) and lo and behold, it started working!!

You think they do this for tax evasion purposes? Or if it's a corporation so that the driver can keep the cash and keep it off the books? (As in he's stealing from the company)

 

It probably has more to do with the fee that Visa/MC charge the cab company.

I've found more and more that if you just offer cabbies cash up front they won't turn the meter on at all. Of course this requires you to know that trip A to B would normally cost $25 so you offer a double sawbuck up front and they'll jump at it.

I had one the other day do the fake out "are you paying cash, my machine doesn't work" when I got in the cab. It was a short ride so I said it would be fine.
Then I tried to give him a $20 and the fucker couldn't give me change and ran my CC instead.

Yeah, I've had to call their bluff a few times before as well. The machine always miraculously starts working again.

i would imagine this is the case.
