Thanks brah. I'm heading out to meet friends for food (and more drinks) right now so that should help devil.gif

Frequency is cycles/given time period. If you change the frequency you change the representation of the sound, for example the chipmunking effect. I never mentioned the frequency, so I don't really know what you're on about.

Compressing the wave is a way to modify its amplitude. Compressing the wave does not change it's frequency so you're dead wrong.

To prove my point, this is a demonstration of an analog compressor's use in a recording studio. When he performs the compression/boost the frequency does not change:

Quick math lesson:

All sinusoidal waves have a characteristic periodicity. Reducing this periodicity compresses the wave. Since the period is the inverse of the frequency, compressing a wave reduces the period and increases the frequency. This increases the total energy of the wave in a given time period but it doesn't affect the amplitude of the wave. If you don't understand this, here are two quick and simple sine waves rendered by Google:

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=ploy+y%3Dsin(x)+and+y%3Dsin(3x)

Notice the wave corresponding to a frequency of 3x is compressed and its period is reduced but they have the same amplitude.

If you want to see what increased amplitude looks like just add some coefficient to a sinusoidal function.

And what you posted are not sinusoidal waves in and of themselves, they are waveforms. Waveforms show the amplitude of the constituent sinusoidal waves (that's why the blue parts high on the y-axis correspond to louder sounds). You'd need a spectrogram to see the actual sinusoidal waves (where the y-axis corresponds to frequencies). When you say 'compression' you're referring to compressing the range of the waveform which has nothing to do with the sinusoidal waves that characterize the sound (rendered digitally through superpositions of Fourier series).

My friend has a really nice 2BR apt. in the best city in the area, and asked if I'd like to move in. It would mean a 40 min. commute (likely an hour on heavy traffic days), which is the main reason I'm hesitant, but it really is a great town and I'm already doing a 25-30 minute commute. Annoyed that I can't decide.

Youtube. Used to buffer nicely, but now it loads like five seconds on video, plays, stutters, then plays another five seconds. Can't buffer while paused. Worthless.

Sporadic too, sometimes it works fine, other times it works like the above.

what's the difference in regards to social life as opposed to where you're at now?

I think you need to add some water to your drinking routine. While I don't drink often I do add a glass or three of water to the night and it helps.

+1. So annoying.
