Are you new to the interwebz?

Cats may not be man’s best friend, but they’re arguably something even better: man’s key to instant Internet pageviews. It’s a long-established fact that Internet content—whether it’s a cutesy video, a photoshopped inside joke, or a longform public health article—has a better chance of achieving coveted “viral” status if it somehow evokes the sound of purring.

With all of these fundable and kickstarter sites nobody is taking any responsibility any more. I feel this is why most of them fail.

Startups have always failed in massive numbers, but now in the Internet age you have the same amount of ineptitude with the fewest barriers to entry. Every highschooler with a half formed plan to buy a Lamborghini jumps on the Internet for funding.

Also, there is no passion anymore. Everybody wants to start something up and sell it and retire. This is also why many of them fail because there is no vision, or mission. It is the latest get rich quick scheme. Especially in the tech world.

+1

Kickstarter is like watching "an idiots guide to build an empire", so many terrible and half-baked ideas on there, it's not even funny.

The media has some blame in this, telling people anyone can get rich blah... blah...blah...., they just fail to mention the work involved and how long it takes for it to make a profit, it's not like it happens overnight.

The strike gold and cash out process has also been driven by the last ten years of tech buyouts. Any program that you use or website you visit is owned by one of about ten super-global companies. The same is true of high streets.

There is no notion that you could build an empire these days. It is much more likely that you will build something that gets bought up by a conglomerate in the field and you move onto another project. The idea that your grand kids might one day be doing the exact thing you did today doesn't feel realistic.

All I want is for the storm to hold off for the morning commute. Evening will suck for sure, though.
