the dog that my girlfriend and i adopted 6 months ago probably has an extremely invasive form of cancer. most of my savings will be eaten up by the diagnosis (just spent $300 at an emergency vet, have to go in tomorrow for x-rays, blood test, and a biopsy). no idea how we can afford surgery, chemo or radiation. she's 5 years old.

That's awful....

You must be torn apart between the realistic money issue and the wealth of the dog...

Must be difficult.

The ******* Canadian embassy. They refused my student his student visa to attend university in Montreal, where he was already admitted 6 months ago. Since then he's been rejected by the embassy four times, despite our college president and I writing letters of recommendation attesting to him and his character, they won't give him a visa because they view him as an immigration risk (he is from the Ivory Coast). His visa has just run out here in Hong Kong, it's already been extended 4 times, and his family has no more money to support him, nor is there any work for him at home. They spent all their savings sending him to Hong Kong to go to our college so he could get admitted into a western university, which he did and now the ******* embassy dickheads refuse him because of where he's from. I feel so sorry for this kid, we've all tried our hardest to give him a real chance in life and he did his part as well. He's literally been living on scraps (we would bring him food from home/restaurant leftovers) for the last 3 months since his money has run out, waiting for his visa to come so he could go to school in Canada (where he got a scholarship). And in the end, he gets fucked because he lost the genetic lottery and was born in the wrong place and there's nothing we can do about it.

Ivory Coast??

Civil war equals immigration and refugee status risk even if the President was ousted last year...

He is a French speaker and seen as a potential illegal immigrant in Quebec and Canada...

The only Ivorian without any immigration problems are footballers.

we've only had her for 6 months :( :( my girlfriend has been crying for hours. even if had $30,000 for all the treatment, it'd only add 3-9 months for her treatment. i pray that it's just a benign ***** mass, but she has almost all the symptoms... guess i'll have a better idea of it tomorrow. it's hard to think that i have to wake up and live my life with this in the background - i have to give an exam tomorrow morning, start grading papers.. just like a nightmare.

teger, very sorry to hear this. I too hope it's just a benign ***** mass. Pets add so much to our lives.

Pissing me off is that today is the fifth anniversary of my best friend's death. A true "brother from another mother," for 25 years until his untimely death due to the Canadian medical system. There was no need for his death at that time. I'll be raising a few toasts in his memory tonight.

Teger, I hope the dog can be cured, but if not, I hope it doesn't have to suffer long. My thoughts are with you and your girlfriend. This is an awful situation to endure.

I thought all these girls on the street were looking at me because I am so ridiculously good looking. As it turns out my fly was wide open.

I was standing talking to my old boss (a woman) and I happened to realize the fly was down so rather than try to zip it up discreetly, I just said, "Uh, my fly's down" while zipping it up. She laughed nervously and turned red.

She soon moved to another department.

So she could bang you, right? (no relations with direct reports and so on...)
