The deal is that you are never going to have any weeknights at home (so don't get a pet and good luck keeping up with dusting the place)--you're flying home late thursday night in time to go to bed or you're out friday morning. You still have to work on friday, but when you are done, you are home (whether that be 5PM, 7PM or 9PM). Part of the deal is that in exchange for travelling 50 weeks a year, your friday-sunday evenings are when you get to see your wife or your friends or your girlfriend; you might still have to work on saturday, but you will be in town and it probably won't go too late.
Flying late and getting back home at midnight is is pretty shitty (hope you enjoy airport dinners)...it's not like they are paying you more even though they took away a third of your nights at home (and a full half of the "good" nights).
edit: for instance, if I suddenly started having to do weekly travel, I would be none too happy. I didn't sign up for that shit and if you're not going to pay me more to do it, there is going to be a problem.
I'd like to think after 1.5 years on the job, countless lunch orders for my managers, printing, stapling, setting up meetings, staying late till my superiors leave, and whatever hell there is, I've done my fair share to NOT deserve this expectation to stay till Friday after work. Not saying I've paid all my dues yet, but damn, this is uncalled for.
In the end, though, it all works out because I can stay at home with my parents over the week and weekend (client site is closer to my parents' place than our HQ) and all my best buddies are in Boston and NYC, so I'm going to be hitting up NYC again this weekend (free happy hour at a bar that my friend's GF won, apparently, so kinda excited to check that out). Plus, the company pays me when I don't stay at hotels, which is a very nice benefit. I'll be saving soooo much money by doing this. Maybe this will mitigate my massive stock losses with Apple

In fact, I wouldn't mind just living with my parents for a month or so and not having to fly back. The only issue with that is the VP at my Dallas office would flip a shit about why I'm never coming back; he'd probably talk to my project manager and I want to avoid that at all costs, so I'll be flying back every other week.
The entire month of December was nice, not having to travel and all. It was really refreshing to feel like you've settled down in one place. Last week marks my 1 year anniversary of flying every week for work and I'm surprisingly not burnt out to the core, but I am starting to tire of it. Fancy hotels, steak dinners, miles, all that shit don't matter. I just want to stay in one place and sleep in my own bed.
Anyway, I'm setting in motion the wheels to move on to a different job. We'll see what prospects await me in the Big Apple
