Things that are pissing you off. - Page 2685

Gomestar etc. has a point carrots and other roots are cheap and healthy, I have pretty much subbed everything I used to use potatoes for with beetroots, carrots, parsnip etc. and I haven't eaten pizza in years and the last time I had one, I didn't like it, the same goes for all fatty foods.

My mother and my aunt grew up in the same household, but they and their families have totally different approaches to thing f.x. I grew up in a single parent household, but we always eat healthy and did stuff outside (the same did my grandparents). My aunt, her husband and kids on the other hand lives of deep fried food straight out the freezer, even though my aunt is retired and her husband makes a good living, also they have 3 cars and they are very overweight, so it's not an issue regarding social status, education etc. it's a matter of will.

I have watched a bunch of programs about shamu sized people, who have to get cut out of their houses to go to feeding clinics and 99 out of a 100 fail, because they want their big macs and their cola and don't "like" lettuce and walking is beneath them.

Walking doesn't cost you anything, so they can be to poor to walk, just lazy.

I have been wondering this for years, I know it's not directly comparable, but there is always commercials on tv for african children who can't get food and go to school and I always wonder, why are you having kids, if you can't feed them?

Years ago I was running a small business unit and the business office manager was hugely fat. Every morning she would have a stack of 2-3 McMuffins and hashbrowns on her desk. Her car's back seat was always littered with McD's wrappers too so she obviously would start eating her haul on the way to the office. Her front always had food stains and lots of debris.
If she was ever out to lunch in a group though? Salad because, "I eat like a bird."

what type of bird? a vulture perhaps?

I had to do some work things so I missed the last four pages of fat debate. I would have liked to have thrown my own hatred of fatties in their as well but as it appears the argument has dispersed I will withhold until a later time.

I was at a restaurant where everything was comically-sized and I mean that quite literally. They purposely oversized things to exaggerated (pro)portions. One appetizer would have been enough for a whole family to eat, making it especially humorous to see people appetizing on two dozen cheese-crusted chicken wings. The on the sandwiches and burgers were more or less loaves of bread. I'm sure at one point this would have been a tongue-in-cheek joke or some kind of novelty, but it seems like this kind of food is now the standard and if people don't get a 16 oz. bacon cheeseburger on a pretzel bun they won't be satisfied or satiated.

While waiting for a table there a woman brushed against me while I was talking to my friends and said 'excuse me'. I thought 'oh, no, you don't need to say excuse me -- just lose weight and avoid the situation to begin with.'

There is a kid outside playing with one of those jumbo RC cars. He's having a blast, and I can see it on his face from 7 stories up. But I just want to strangle the shit out of him and break his toy because the thing is SO FUCKING LOUD AND ANNOYING.

I am really pissed off at myself - I fucked over a friend, and I'm not happy.

when I left israel I changed my address to a friends address, without really thinking that there were any possible bad consequesnces of this.

last year, about a year ago, he the freind sent me two parking tickets that had come to his address for me, old ones. I was on a business trip and glanced at them and figured I would deal with them later. I didn't see a date for the event, but they had to be at least 10 years old. I sort of thought that the next time I was in israel I would deal with them.

anyway, today he sends me an email, he's furous. Israel has a system for debt collection where they can send people to your house to take your things for a debt. since I am registered at his house, they can take stuff from him. so I have to deal with this tonight, but he is really pissed off at me. he has been my best friend for 30 years, he's always been good and decent to me, and I feel like I fucked him over with my negligence. I really feel like shit.

I think I miss minneapolis...but minneapolis is simply not a market for the kind of work I want to be doing right now.

Couple of things that have been quite noticable while I have been home:
-Far less fat people. In chicago, most of my friends are skinny asian kids so I don't really hang out with many fatties (and I live in a gay neighborhood...they tend to take care of themselves), but when you go out in the city, they are there...and god forbid you go to a 2nd tier suburb.

-It's objectively cold as shit here. Sub 20 every day with frequent single digit temps. Yet, I don't see people bitching about it. They just say "oh it is cold outside, better put on an extra layer, but I'm sure not going to bother with letting some cold air ruin my plans or keep me cooped up inside". In Chicago, it seems like it will be just hitting freezing temps and everybody spends significant amounts of time complaining about the cold and not doing any activities because of it. You would think after living there for a year or two (or five) you would learn how to use layers and dress for the weather. You're cold because it is the middle of winter and you are wearing a t-shirt. In minneapolis, there are tons of people out and about. There are bikes on the street, bikes on the trails, the climbing gym was packed, and when I went cross country skiing the other evening, there were a ton of other people out skating around...which brings me to my third point

-There are much better winter sports activities available in minneapolis than in chicago. There are city parks with groomed cross country ski trails (including snow machines), there are tons of parks and lakes that get flooded and frozen to make ice rinks (and if you drive a ways, you get bigger lakes with ice-boats and shit. There are multiple crappy downhill ski areas that are only a 15-20 minute drive without traffic. Chicago really has none of this. Crappy downhill skiing requires several hours in a car, and cross country skiing doesn't exist in the city (can be had with an hour's jaunt into the suburbs maybe). They used to flood fields to make ice rinks, but now everything is a managed rink which means they close at 7PM on weeknights, are tiny/crowded, and for some stupid reason, cease operation in mid february (since they are chilled concrete rinks, they could easily stay open until april most years). And finally, lake michigan doesn't actually freeze so it is useless all winter.

Plenty of great things about chicago, but even though minneapolis is technically colder (chicago's humidity might make it "feel" colder), I think it has a much better winter.

The important thing is that you're conscious of what you did wrong and why you feel bad. Some people just don't seem to care.

Yikes! Morbid obesity and societies' role debate was had while I was gone. lol8[1].gif

My thing is that I have nothing against fat people and even obese people.

Its just that in my specific situation in Sea World - they were berating a indian family asking very politely if they could sit in the "handicapped companion" seats which where not filled at all. The companions themselves (who where mostly obese) of the obese people in scooters parked in the handicapped area started loudly chirping/berating the indian family like it was a huge capitol offense to want to sit in the open seats. Logic serves that since the show was about to start, and the handicapped park zone was filled with scooters, then the handicapped companion seating was already occupied by said companions then the rest of the open seats are kind of a shame to waste. it was christmas anyways and everyone could've fit easily, and it wouldn't of been a health hazard/violation because those seats aren't for handicapped anyway but their companions.

again... its not like they were in wheelchairs and had cerebral palsy, or missing limbs from accidents. it seemed unfair to yell at family wanting to sit in an open seating area in that matter almost like they were abusing the system.

just got back from the dog run. McCarren was a disaster zone (because of the semi-frozen puddles galore + semi frozen mud pits). So I had the bright idea to go to Cooper.... which has probably the most responsible dog owners in this part of Brooklyn.....

then this happened:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

the funny part was my puppy didn't give a shit and wanted to keep on playing. he even ran away from anyone trying to catch him so he could keep on running/playing with the other dogs.

its actually probably going to end up being a cool flesh wound anyway. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

it did bleed like a bitch though. we got to the house and he started rolling around on the white carpets/white walls and flopping his head around spraying blood everywhere. I took him into the shower with me and cleaned him up. I was considering maybe tying to suture it closed... but again its:
