That's great to hear. I've gotta say the same for my mom. She went through a period where she lost all the feeling in her feet, and so walking was obviously very difficult. She used those scooters, but she never resigned herself to it. She's gotten some therapy in the last year that has brought feeling back, and now she's proud that she can walk through the store.

Casinos, in every locale, seem to be dog whistles for fatties. Bingo halls too. I worked in a bingo barn for a while in high school. Not only hugely fat but chain smokers. Always the strongest too, like Export As.

Fat people know how to live it seems.

In all fairness to fat people, it doesn't help that the very food that makes these people so fat and unhealthy is the the food that's mostly affordable to these typically lower income households.

Yes, you can talk about exercise and whatnot, but it all starts with nutrition.

Not everyone can afford to shop at Whole Foods.

I hear this argument a lot and I don't really buy it. You don't need to shop at Whole Foods to make better eating decisions.

Years ago I was running a small business unit and the business office manager was hugely fat. Every morning she would have a stack of 2-3 McMuffins and hashbrowns on her desk. Her car's back seat was always littered with McD's wrappers too so she obviously would start eating her haul on the way to the office. Her front always had food stains and lots of debris.

If she was ever out to lunch in a group though? Salad because, "I eat like a bird."

Oh god, this again. Cabbage, rice, beans. All very cheap.

yeah, but you do need some culture and some time/energy. its easy for young, healthy rich people to talk about it, but it does get hard for poor, overworked, burdened with kids people to eat as healthy as they should. sure, they could come home and cook a pot of beans and rice, but after a long day being shit on, its damn easy to come home to a tv with 200 channels, and some canned chili and some pepsi

I understand the argument, but how much does it really cost to roast a giant bag of carrots with some herbs and butter? Granted, you have to first want to eat carrots instead of a Whopper.

I don't know what prices are like south of the border but when ever we get something like McD's it stuns me with how expensive it seems to be. It might be faster and easier but I'm not 100% sure that it is cheaper. Are these people eating three times a day? A "meal" seems to cost around $5 a go or $15 a day. A person might not be eating steak every day for that cost but you can eat in good health at $450 a month, planning is the key I guess.

The same people who struggle with planning for life would also struggle with planning a meal.

Which leads to the next point. Why poor people always have 2+ kids. They torture themselves.
