Pretty sure that limit is imposed by the foreign bank, not yours. Try another bank's ATM.

Don't know about your case, but it was my Canadian bank that was setting the limit when I try to withdraw money in Hong Kong. My daily upper limit is $400 CAD, and I can only take out the equivalent of that in HKD.

Maybe, but it goes the same way on every atm I´ve tried. Even if it gives me a 500 option.

Actually, I think that the correct question is "Why is the US so hooked on credit cards?" Most countries I've been in have had a fairly high percentage of "cash only" stores. Especially China, unless you stick to very high class(aka stupidly expensive) shopping and dining, you'll be screwed without cash(okay, that's not 100% true, but you get the idea).

And you wonder why the economy is as it is??? Why do they let people like this graduate?

On terms of cash limits on cards, that's ALWAYS from the company/bank that issued the card. The only other limit that might apply is if the local bank has a limit on how much cash you can take out with one withdrawal. That is easy to get around though, just pop your card in again and make a second withdrawal. You'll probably have double the transaction fees, etc though. The fact that all the ATM's have given you the same result (I'm assuming you tried ATMs from different banks?), should make that rather clear.

Fucking hate parents who play the "we-are-your-parents-so-iisten-to-us" card. I always feel some guilt when I say no. But then you just have to say no sometimes.

Danny, I've sentenced boys younger than you to the electric chair. Didn't want to do it, felt I owed it to them.

I wanted to cook sake steamed clams tonight for the fiancee. I wanted a decent amount knowing not all of them would open up. They only had a dozen or so and I bought them all.

Would you believe that only one of them opened up? I left her in the other room with 1 clam in a piping hot broth while I'm here in a dark room posting on SF.

Absolutely untrue. Many banks, especially in Europe, impose daily withdrawal limits to minimize losses in the case of theft since such losses are generally not recoverable. Limits in tourist areas are especially low for this reason.

My bank limit is 300 pounds a day to avoid an account to be emptied before the card being cancelled.

I have to go to the desk if I want more..

I am not sure whether to read this as a true story or an allegory. I think it works both ways.
