apparently I'm getting old. I just threw out my hip. I always used to think this was funny.

Thanks for all of the condolences yesterday about my grandmother, folks. I knew the last time I saw her was going to be the last. She was very old and not having fun like she used to anymore. I know she is at rest now, which in a weird way is comforting.

LowerCaseG says "thanks!" He's been a trooper. Colds usually bother him much, but this one has been pretty bad. Still, aside from not sleeping well this weekend, he's been in good spirits, despite obviously not feeling great. I just hope he shakes it soon. The big plans this weekend all revolve around his birthday party, so I'd like him to be at 100%.

If you think it's bad in the general population, try having a kid. I walked into my son's daycare yesterday, and it sounded like I was in a TB ward with all the coughing.

Fucking spammers. One-third of the threads on the front page of GC right now are deleted spam threads.

I don't understand spam. Who clicks on this stuff? I mean, you would think that if it wasn't worth it they wouldn't do it? Or would they?

I think part of the point these days is to get the link on as many pages as possible to increase their Google profile.

have they figured out the new system? iirc, when it was launched, there was very minimal spam.

i imagine, they are automated and generated all over the web, and all kinds of forums, little or no distinctions. and on the whole, its probably worth it for them, however annoying the vast majority of the world finds it. no different than telemarketers.

Very few people actually click on the links but the cost of posting them is pretty low so you might get some wins.
Getting your links on a well ranked site increases your own sites links which makes it more likely that your crap comes up in a google search result and some moron buys from you.

This is part of the reason google's search results have been getting crappier...
