Flagellants? I don't see what a 13th century religious movement has to do with pink writing tablets.

You make a good point about flagellants, and specifically how they don't have anything to do with pink writing tablets.

The word I had in mind was fashionista.

As a manager, she is expected not only to donate, but also to coerce others into donating, also to donate items for raffles and auctions. Last year she wrote a check and donated several hundred dollars of silent auction goods. Several in her group were reprimanded by higher-ups in the org for not "displaying enough enthusiasm" during a drive where they *paid* to dress down for the day and then didn't "have enough fun" in dressing down. She was called into a 1-hour meeting today with other managers where the CEO stood up and talked about how he's a big donor and how they all should be on the weekly paycheck deduction plan to the tune of $1,000/year. She probably gave a grand last year anyways, if you add it all up.
We're all for charity - my wife is on the board of a non-profit and dedicates tons of time, energy, and money into it. I find all of this to be extremely distasteful and unprofessional. This really bugs the fuck out of me.

what a fucking idiot... charity nazi bastard.

wow, interesting to read that my company isn't the only one who does this. I could have written the exact same post except that we have multiple charities, not just United Way

what about in some Roman Catholic Countries..... where as long as the Month ends in a 'ER there will be people who "carol" for pure cash money hand outs.

Acid wil vouch for this:

As early as Septemb'ER there'll be:

- children
- adults
- small groups (as low as two people)
- big groups (up to 40)

who will stand outside your house/clinic/work establishment/office and proceed to sing Christmas Carols..... and they expect straight cash money for their "efforts".

for the less fortunate its understandable, all you're expected to do is give them a little cash and maybe some food (especially during a party). but it can be organized and scarily expensive too, where groups (from church, from work, for social organizations) expect huge cash payouts for singing christmas carols out of tune.

i'm really pissed that I have to fly back to my sick mother tomorrow to this exact situation, and even though everyone in my home area knows that, they'll still will come out and carol, or just straight out ask for money no qualms as a "Christmas gift"

But it's like it's become some macho thing for the CEO and the whole thing has snowballed into, literally, a giant shakedown.
I can't stand the guy actually, my wife has so many stories about what a jackass he is. I'm usually sympathetic to CEOs given what a cuddlebear Piob is but this guy really is kind of a fuckwit.

We used to have a guy at my company (he's gone now, thank God) who would do this every Christmas for Toys for Tots. He would send out constant emails about donations and then begin sending out condescending guilt trip emails if the number wasn't high enough yet. We always get Christmas bonuses around the second week of December and it always seemed like the number would jump rather significantly once those were doled out, but this idiot wouldn't grasp that and would send out his douche emails scolding people for not being generous enough.
