^ get those stacks. Coffee is for closers.icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I am increasingly aware of the amount of time I spend fixing other people's mistakes (that will cost me money if I don't fix)

Recent examples (not exhaustive by any means):

Get a 60 (!!!) day past due letter from my dentist in the mail. Have never gotten any previous bills - also not expecting any kind of balance due. -> call dentist -> dentist says insurance hasnt paid them yet. Insurance eventually did pay it, but WTF, can I get a phone call explaining the situation rather than a 60 day notice which makes me panic thinking that theyve already dinged my credit which then makes me have to call during office hours (seemingly 10-2 tuesday through wednesday)

Get a bill to renew my car tabs in early august -> send in a check for the billed amount -> wait a few weeks expecting tabs -> August 31st I recieve mail for the state DOL . . . with my returned check. Apparently they billed me the wrong amount. Now it's the last day of the month and a holiday weekend so I cant even legally drive my car to a brick and mortar office (which i was attemting to avoid in the first place).

Get a toll bridge bill in the mail (from my fiance's car) which is weird because we have an electronic pass that auto-drafts from our bank account. I call in to see what the deal is and they explain that the pass must not have been read right so the camera took a picture of the car plate and we got a bill in the mail. ->So why wasnt the bill drafted out of our account then? -> They cannot answer this question and need to talk to my fiance specifically (They can't talk to me even though I can give thems SS#, address, billing info, car vin#, blood type, sexual preferences, etc, etc, etc. So my fiance has to call in during her work hours (on her lunch break) to deal with some shit that I already tried to deal with for her, because I don't even know why. Also, I tried to pay the bill online just to make this go away and it wont let me because it says the bill # and the Lic. # dont match up . . . so why the fuck are they both on the bill that you sent me?!>!

I mentioned before in this thread that she came up with this haphazard plan to get all three siblings together for an impromptu family reunion with my parents. She also planned to buy plane tickets on a whim (which she can't afford) with the implied logic that I'll shoulder the costs after wards. She didn't bother to check with anyone's schedule or if I'd be willing to pay either.
Well she calls me today and explains that she already bought the tickets and they all leave from SFO. She fucking expects me to fly from JFK out to San Francisco so we can all "fly together for fun!". Even better the flight back from HKG is to SFO. So apparently I have to spend what amounts to another whole round trip ticket to fly to and from SFO (adding two days to the whole ordeal/planning) with extra flights (JFK-SFO and SFO-JFK).
I tell her to cancel my ticket because I know for a fact that round trip Cathay Pacific Flights from JFK-HKG are pretty much the same price to SFO-HKG flights. She tries to explain that she thought that it would be a lot cheaper to fly out of SFO.
I start to go ballistic on her and she starts crying on the other end. I let her applogize and calm down and tell her that it just doesn't make sense for me to fly out to SFO (too much time wasted on everyone's end) and that we'll all see each other when we arrive at my parents house anyway.
5 minutes later I get a "serious" call from my mother and father who are mad at me for berating my sister. They formally state that I should pay for all the tickets now. [ I know ] they know and feel that I'm in the right, but they are making me do this to appease my sister who was probably in hysterics and might just bail on this whole trip/thing she planned in the first place.... good times.

that is ridiculous that she expected you to fly from SFO. the rest is annoying, but the SFO is just WTF. sorry you have to deal with it. still, i agree, its probably best to go and get the whole family together with your parents.

boy, LMD I feel for you.

I have a friend who lives in sing and is married to a chinese woman (he is australian of european descent), he happens to make a lot more than his wife or her 2-3 siblings, and all the various family expenses like this end up falling on him. he has a whole basket of stories to tell that are very similar - at the last birthday party that he threw for his father in law, at a nice resteraunt, one of the sisters invited a half dozen single male and female friends to introduce to each other, no connection to the FIL, just a free meal.

Nope. Mrs. T has a cousin who invited a bunch of her friends to her sister's wedding rehearsal dinner. No one knew them, or knew why they were there, or could keep up with all the booze they downed.

Hah, nope. She's been freeloading forever. The stories I could tell about her would make you want to punch a wall. Her FB status updates are pretty funny though, did I ever post the one where she fit the top of a beer can in her mouth?

No, definitely not. Ask me how I know. devil.gif I'm not one to discuss family, but let's just say that LMD's experience is all too familiar to me.

Yeah, used to work that way in my family when we went out for dinner...until they all pissed me off one too many times about my move the US.

Getting caught going to the clocking out machine earlier than I'm supposed to, been given a warning. Wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't (for once) been doing work in that general area.

Rube would have been on that already. laugh.gif She barely owns her car. Don't ask about the house she lives in.

what my friend told me was that in Chinese families the kids are expected to chip in for support of the parents and for things like family dinners, divided up based on how comfortable they each are. in his case, his wife (and him) happen to be much more comfortable than the other siblings, so they are taken advantage of. I don't think the last part is normal, its douchy.
