early in my career we had this asswipe programmer who would take all his calls on speakerphone and bug the shit out of all of us on the entire floor. one day he took a call from our boss (who was in a different location) on speakerphone - it turns out the boss was calling to fire him and we all heard the first part of the conversation before he picked it up. poetic justice.

firing somebody over the phone is also a little lame

It's my second day off for the year.
I really have to clear my mind and get work out but I can't seem to shake it. I'm no resorting to the bottle either. I already did happy hour.

yeah, but this person was freaking out because they thought (mistakenly) that their ring was sent to the wrong address, and they called our office, and the secretary called me because she thought it was an actual emergency. (it would be if we shipped an expensive item to the wrong address) i opened up my shipping records, confirmed all was ok, and emailed the lady that all was fine. she wanted a call, but was not needed.

since we checked in less than 45 minutes before the flight, they do not guarantee baggage to make it on the plane. even though we were on line for over an hour, and it was only because they were so damn slow, and didnt have a full counter of employees that we didnt make the cut off, they still wouldn't bend. i needed the car seats, so i just payed the 20 bucks. so lame.

it is, no question. turns out that they had a few people to let go of, and they were instructed to let everyone know as close to simultaneously as possible, so he needed to do this one by phone. still a little lame, but the guy was an unredeemable asshole so i really didn't feel sorry for him

Geez, airlines aren't making it easy for patrons to like them. Glad you got your car seats though.

no they are not. greedy bastards. at least we didnt have to pay for bags on SW. would have cost $250 on another airline.

New task I have consists of me opening up 450 excel files to make sure they were run properly with last nights date and information pulling in.

This sounds like an opportunity to figure out a better system.

Unless your bosses like errors and don't mind a system that sounds like it is rapidly becoming unmaintainable.

Yea I change my tasks up every few months and will be implementing changes to mitigate risk on some of these tasks.

I'll have to look into access...I have used it before but don't know a whole lot about it.


Edit: No MS Access on my pcs...makes it somewhat of an issue...Neo, what would Access have allowed me to do? I can suggest it and probably have it installed if it will be worth it and I have a justifiable plan in place.

Fucking hell, I had a summer flu thing and, although I'm feeling better, there's still all kinds of gunk in my nose that won't break free and I sound like I have a smoker's cough. Aggravating.
