Got family problems of my own.
My cousin, who is a few years younger than me got married earlier this summer. Oh, he also just had his baby last week. Do the math...
So its basically been bullshit since the birth. His mother, my "aunt", wasn't able to see the baby for several days because his new MIL is... well she's kind of overbearing from what I've gathered. Apparently my aunt was all in tears because she couldn't see her goddamn grandson because the MIL made her stay down there. She is getting to see her new grandson later this week, IIRC.
That's part of the ish, and it gets worse.
My uncle was saying to FIL that hey, money's tight so they could move home, my cousin could finish up at the university that is down the road from where they live. FIL says, that's a good idea so five days after the birth, they are going to move from where he currently goes to school in the middle of the state (A really good school btw, more on that later) and move with the in laws to a small town several hours away and go to a different school that's 90 minutes away. Clearly a less desirable situation than before but hey, his wife wanted it (which means MIL probably wanted it) so its being done!
Now, he was at a really good school on full scholarship for his sport. His wife doesn't like him travelling so he had to drop that despite having (IIRC 2 more years until graduation and 2 seasons of eligibility). Dude was the team's best player in a high-profile sport for a really good team. So he stopped. Now he's going to have to come up with tuition. Oh and she doesn't like him being gone for his sport, well wtf is going to happen when he spends 3 fucking hours travelling every day for school? I will refrain from predicting what happens because my predictions with that shit are never wrong.
Ugh, its a giant fucking mess. So many stupid and catastrophically short-sighted decisions being made.

sad to hear, ed.. but otoh, think your cousin needs to grow a pair.

goddamn stupid drivers... so last night I was driving home from work and came to a stop on this (very slight) uphill intersection. light turns green and this fucking idiot in front of me slowly freewheels down and hit my car! we both come down, guy was so fucking clueless about what happened and asked me what happened. oh, and he does look clueless and stupid. anyway, my front grill kinda moved and there were some scratches on the bumper, but I was getting livid coz the guy just kept on rambling about some lame-ass excuse about his handbrakes failing and all and I totally found it pointless talking to him, and it was dark and drizzling. in the end I just wanna go home- the damage was too small for me to have the insurance people bother me anyway, so I just kinda "made" him pay for the damages. I told him to give me around $50 for the damage and he was trying to explain to me that he only have around half that amount in his wallet and I told him to whip out his wallet and the fucking guy had around $25 and some change in his wallet, and I just took every single bill in it, including small change.

Flight was delayed, on one of my least favorite planes, and a majority of the seats were taken by what I imagine were 12-14 year olds with maybe 2 chaperones....and then we had to sit on the tarmac for a long time waiting for our gate to open up when we landed.
Kids were fucking singing songs, one kid was raising and slamming down his two armrests like drums to his headpnoes (which made vibrations I could feel in my seat from across the aisle and up a row), and the girls behind me were freaked out and couldn't figure out why the plane was flying over water on its approach to chicago and nobody within earshot knew why either (they briefly thought it might be the great lakes but then realized that that wasn't possible).
Thank god I always fly with earplugs which at least numbs the sound.
Then I had a fricking scary cab ride home. Super old dude was driving down I90 in between two lanes and had no clue even when somebody was laying on the horn at him and on several other occasions was drifting in and out of lanes. Twice during the $30 ride, he took a pill out of a prescription bottle...
I had to call 311 and report him but I felt pretty bad about it. He was one of the few independent cabbies in the city, mentioned that he had just bought this new vehicle, and seemed like a nice old man. But still, it had to be done as he probably shouldn't be driving any vehicle, let alone doing it professionally. At least as an owner-operated, if they at some point tell him he can't drive anymore, the last few taxi medallions sold in the city went for $325k+ which has got to be a lot of appreciation over whatever he paid for it...so he will do alright there.

This sounds all too familiar (except for the cab ride; I use the same guy all the time so no hassles there).

Sorry to hear about your brother, Piob.

here's one that I put in the "things you don't get" thread...... only because its a major cause of being "pissed off" too:

here's a recent one that was explained to me (by two separate cab drivers), but then I was skeptical and refused to believe it, until further evidence actually proved it to be true:

when you're driving sometimes there is "bottle neck" like traffic (where its stop and go for about 10-30 min) and you keep on driving and realize there was no bottle neck (no loss of lanes), accident, or anything causing a delay.

the cause of the "stop and go/bottle neck-like" traffic?
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

the highway goes uphill.

I'm fucking serious... its been proven to me all across the eastern seaboard highways, midwest highways and even southwestern USA highways. Hills cause fucking major traffic. It doesn't even need to be fucking big hills either... even slight inclines will cause major traffic

For all you NYC drivers think about the times you've driven to the bronx/hudson river areas) from manhattan on the Hudson river parkway and it was bumper to bumper stop and go traffic and then realized that there was no accident or loss of lanes what-so-ever by the time you get to the bronx. it was the slight incline before the bridges that caused it.

the obvious thing is that drivers slow down going up hill and with enough cars it'll cause major traffic miles back - sadly if drivers maintained speed going into the hill (with the understanding that slowing down going up a hill will cause major traffic all this would be avoided.

It's not just northerners - that happens here in Houston, all the time.

However, as you crest the hill, that's when you see the trooper and his radar. So people hit the brakes in anticipation.

Anyone who drives through Bellaire or remembers Ida Lee Delaney knows better.

wasn't going to post about this but....was robbed last night, I could have avoided the situation but it happen really quickly and when I realized it I didn't have a way out unless I was willing to take significant risk and pretend I was Jack Bower. plain.gif fuck, this puts me behind quite a bit. I had 3 textbooks I had just bought, phone, camera, laptop, sunglasses, headphones, lighter, cutter, cash and a few other things I can't remember. Decided not to mention it to the family as they would worry and not really trying to put that on anyone right now.

AND Mom stopped by unannounced to see me and I was asleep (9am). There was an empty wine bottle in the kitchen so that may have not looked very good, I Just had one glass last night but the bottle was already low.

Shit, that sucks. Still, you're alive and unharmed which is better than the alternative.
