EDIT: I'm way out of warranty, but made an appointment at an Apple store anyways. Hopefully it won't cost me much out of pocket. I have no desire to buy a new phone so close to the next one launching.

I was in Arizona in December when mine died on me while eating in a restaurant. I was asking the server the whereabouts of an Apple store, and instead she told me what might be wrong with it and offered a possible solution to fix it. I don't remember what the fix was, but it worked.
