I woke up today expecting it to be another normal post Thanksgiving. It has ended up anything but. Went into the lab to find out an experiment key to my Ph.D had worked wonderfully. Then, an ex invited me to Paris to spend Xmas with her. Then, I found out a friend of mine shot and killed himself yesterday. All within about 2 hours. I'm ******* numb.

That's excellent and awful. Best to focus on the excellent I suppose.

Admittedly, I was thinking about suicide, but more along the lines of "yeah, I'm starting to understand how someone could think that" rather than "I'm going to **** my wrists!". Things have been extremely miserable for quite some time now and it hit a crescendo that day that put me over the edge with depressive feelings. But its going to take more than that to kill me off (as some of you know). I did want to say thanks to the few of you who offered support and guidance. Also, a big thanks to all of the invective and hate filled PM's that I received. Those actually helped, in an angry hate filled way.

That resonated a little too close to home. I spent most of tonight with mutual friends talking. It's the oddest thing, this life of ours. There's an elegance to how indescribably complex and wonderful it is, but it's remarkably fleeting. I've unfortunately known many people that died of cancer, but this was just stunningly different.
