I know for sure that a bike helmet saved my life.

about 15 years ago I was rear ended by a car, I flew foward and landed on the rear wheel then crashed down, hitting my head. my helmet cracked, as it is supposed to do. I rolled right, off the road. the car that hit me was then hit by the car behind him, and the car then rolled over my bike, crushing it. if I hadn't rolled to the side, I would have been killed. if I hadn't had a helmet, I would have been in no condition to roll off the road fast enough to get out of the way.

I bet your hair was really messed up, too.

For years I only wore helmets during group rides (to prevent nagging by others) and when required during races, all other times I rode sans helmet. Then I ran into a parked car, I was thrown to the pavement head first. Since then I've worn my helmet on every ride, without exception.

otc and gt would both have been so much better off without the helmets. I assure you. Read a wikipedia article on helmets which states the pros and cons of helmets which isn't terribly conclusive.

Sad that it took taking a bad crash to realize that a helmet will do more good than bad. Riding in NYC and almost getting hit 3 times by taxis and having pedestrians and joggers randomly cut me off or jump out from blind cut outs in bike paths, I'll take my chances with a helmet ON, even with my incredibly thick and robust skull.

Effing female Euro Trash sub contractors, predominately British, who never return calls and are only employed because they have nice tits and the manager is going through a mid life crisis (again!) ffffuuuu.gif

And the weather its supposed to be summer in Australia can't remember the last day of clear blue skies and a temp over 35c its been grey, bleak and never getting past the late 20'sC for the past three months. FTFAJ.

Actually a really good article, imo.

What you mean hitting the pavement head first didn't kill you? Wow a miiiiiiiiiiricale. Best thing to do, don't run into parked cars.

graphic pictures, do not click this link

Let me try to explain it for you. I DON''T LIKE BEING TOLD WHAT TO DO. I DON'T RESPECT AUTHORITY. I LOATHE PEOPLE WHO TELL ME HOW I SHOULD LIVE MY LIFE. FUCK OFF.

To be clear, I 100% atgatt. But I resent being told what to do and it should absolutely not be a law.

That is basically the premise of the article. The comments against helmets says head injuries transfers the blame onto the cyclist rather than the driver who runs them off the road or hits them. Also, riding skills are much more important at preventing head injuries than simply applying a helmet.
