What is it that you do on Mondays that make them so horrible? Don't you just rejoice that you are the only second year surgical resident in the history of medicine that gets weekends off?

I know the feeling. This year, however, is going to be different.

You just have to come to terms with the fact work sucks. There is little personal satisfaction to be gained from a job other than the life it allows you to lead. Put in that perspective and I think it helps, well, at least it helped me. I'm not saying stop trying to advance, etc., I'm just saying don't pay attention to the malarky about jobs bringing meaning to your life, etc.

This might be a lot to type out, but I have to vent. I had one of the worst night's of my life last thursday. I was in bed sleeping and my girlfriend went out with coworkers after she got out of work at around 10pm. She didn't have work on Friday, I, however did. Well, I am peacefully dreaming and I get a phone call from her at 2am and she is wacked out of her mind wasted. She was just making noises and repeating words a million times. I was irritated and angry for her waking me with such bullshit. She wasn't even listening to what I was saying, just blabbing on and making no sense whatsoever. Then she started to deteriorate on the phone and started freaking out that she was stumbling and didn't know where she was, she couldn't read street signs and she was crying and moaning at this point. I jump out of bed and call a cab. Since my coat was stolen I just grabbed my suit jacket that I had out for the morning. So I am in slippers, tee shirt, pajama pants and a navy suit jacket. I get in the cab and I am trying to figure out where she is, which was a nightmare. I finally find her using a fence to keep herself up. It is like she didn't recognize me or anything and I was trying to get her into the car and it was very hard. It was like trying to handle a dead body. So, we are in the cab going back to my place and she starts vomiting everywhere in the cab. I am screaming NOOOOOO!!!!!! I yell for the cab driver to pull over, I am trying to get her out of the car, the cab driver is screaming at me. Both me and the girlfriend are covered in puke. The cab driver has towels and spray and I am cleaning us off and cleaning puke out of this taxi cab. After it was mostly clean, I handed the driver a $50 and apologized and said to just go. I am sitting with my poor lady who is crying her eyes out and just like beyond drunk. After a while and more vomiting I hail another cab and I lugged our stinky bodies into the damn thing and got us home. I had to carry her into my place and I just put her on the floor on this old blanket. I stayed up with her the rest of the night to make sure she was breathing ok and everything. I took off the puke clothes and such. It was fucking awful, just awful. She was so out of it, and acting so strange I really think she had some drinks, but got roofied or something. Her friend who was with her said she only had 3 drinks and then put on her coat and left. To make the night even more fucked up her friend was stumbling home and she got hit by a drunk driver, then made the drunk driver drive her home! You can't even make this shit up. After staying up with her and after she woke and got up to use the bathroom and was able to talk to me I finally went to bed at 8:30 in the morning after calling into work and using a vacation day. So Monday morning has been catch-up day in the office.

I agree, people look at jobs as some kind of means to an end. I look at it as the lifestyle it allows me to live. Everything from the salary, to the location, everything.

while there is truth here, ideally having a job that you are enthusiastic about, happy with and proud of is a much better way to go i think. i know some people who feel that way about their job. not many, but those that do are some of the happiest people i know.

PB, get that little feature on her phone enabled that lets you track her on Google Maps.

It was on purpose. I was hoping that it would steer people away from it. smile.gif

She kept asking me in the morning if I was mad at her. I wasn't mad at all, I was just so worried about her. I was mad when I thought she was just calling me to be a funny drunk on the phone.

You know, I actually thought of that. It is a good thing she's not a huge drinker and doesn't make a habit out of this.
