Yeah, that's some heavy shit. Hopefully you guys get your shit worked out. Pulling for you both.

Fire alarm just went off at work. Building has a history of false alarms/going off for 10 seconds. So I wait a minute before heading out of the office (only one here ATM).

As I leave, I realize I left an open can of Coke on my desk so I go grab it.

Alarm still rings.

Head down the stairs, no one else knows if this is real or what. The fire exit is in the garage where my car is (why they put it in a garage UNDER the building as opposed to having us exit onto the street...I don't know). So I say, I'll get my car out of the building and hang out off to the side and wait.

I pull my car out of the space and what do you know...alarm stops. No day off for the Edina.

Thanks man. I didn't mean for that to get put out there to quite as an extreme of an extent, but might as well offer a little more sober explanation. My dad has essentially bailed on everything. He stopped showing up to the companies, so my mom is taking care of everything instead of her half, and it's a two person job (though with the additional control she's been able to implement a few changes and is slowly reducing the time that she's required to be there in person and shifting more authority to the man who's essentially the manager). I also found out last night that even after the talk he and I had about getting him involved with my little sister's life that he hasn't so much as tried to contact her in several months, and all of this while spending every day out on the lake, taking trips, etc.

I wouldn't cut the man's throat. I'm just disgusted with him.

Stepping up and raising your younger siblings is very commendable. I hope the situation with your father gets better.

Excel 2010 sucks even more than Word 2010 does. I can't tell if they have genuinely made it harder to use, or if I am just finding it harder to use because they felt the need to change things that worked perfectly well before. Either way it is counter-intuitive and incredibly irritating. Really simple things that should take minutes are taking much longer.
Microsoft's online tutorials are also terrible. Thankfully there is an Irish computer lecturer with some videos on youtube who explains some of it in wonderfully clear terms in a soothing irish brogue

Upgraded my old Macbook from Snow Leopard to Lion and it's been slow and buggy so far. I'm not even that impressed with the changes. Wish I had held off on the upgrade.

we were on our way back from our hotel and stopped to go boating today. when we were finished i put my hand in my pocket to get the car keys and they were gone. the car was a rental and had all our luggage in it. my family and i walked all over the marina and nothing. keys are gone. called enterprise and they said the second key was in another state. so they said i could call a locksmith and get my stuff and then come back to get the car tomorrow. all things considered this would be a giant pain in the ass and cost me at least $500.

at this point i was really starting to lose my shit. but what other choise did i have?

then my mom, g-d bless her finds the keys underneath the long set stair of stairs from the marina to the parking lot. this was making me very happy. but the hour leading up to it was pretty fuckin tense.

haha that sucks stitch. I'm glad it all worked out, it would have been such a bitch to go through all that trouble.

Crashed my bike today. Was riding home from work on the lakefront path when a girl decided that jogging in a straight line was no fun and instead swerved across into the other lane without looking behind her.

Broke something in my hand/wrist and hit my teeth so one felt loose...few stitches on my lip where the tooth went through and I have to see a dentist to make sure it ends up back in the right place. Back tomorrow for a real cast too (luckily on my off hand). Not a ton of road rash or bruises but I would prefer those to real injuries.

Worst part is this means I can't use the motorcycle I bought a couple of weeks ago or my new race bicycle which I have not even taken delivery of (for the cx season which is starting up now...will probably miss my home turf race :-( )
