My family is incapable of relaying medical information without assuming the ill person is on death's door. I woke up this morning to a bunch of voicemails about how my grandmother was found unresponsive in her hospital bed and is now on life support. Now she's apparently opening her eyes and trying to communicate, only hours after she was supposedly about to die.
This happens all the time with my family. No one ever just gets sick, they have to be on death's door. I spend a bunch of time freaking out only to find out that the "dying" person had a bad cold, and they're just fine.
Now I'm sitting in my office debating whether to take off work to go to the hospital, because she's 80 years old, and I have no idea how sick she actually is.
