I was feeling rightfully pissed off today after negotiating the various incompetent tourists at Smithsonian station.

Is the DC Metro really so bad? I was just there last month and thought it the best public transit system in the US. Well, NYC maybe has better coverage and runs all night, but it's old and dirty.

A week after I left, I read about the derailment, and I was riding the red line most of the time I was there.

I love Metro, it's convenient and gets me where I need to go. Unfortunately some stations are clogged with tourists who have no clue what the hell they're doing- blocking escalators, walking slow and taking up the whole platform, etc. It's a pain ********** for those of us who live here and are trying to get things done.

Whoa, that's incredibly bad luck, globe! What kind of a process is this.... your doc says, oh you have the flu. But....you know what, looks like swine flu. Let's send it to the lab? Rest, fluids, vitamins, all the usual suspects, I suppose. Take care of yourself, and you family. Is there some way you can sequester yourself out of the house?

yeah, pretty much. I had a 102 fever last night so I went to the doctor first thing in the morning, and he said "looks like swine flu" and sent off tests. the doctor said that either it was swine flu or it was some other infection that should be treated like swine flu. probrably if I hadn't told my doctor that I ahd been traveling so much he might not have thought that it was swine flu, I guess.

I'm staying in the bedroom and my wife moved to my son's room, so I am staying out of everyone else's way.

No, that would be if he bent them over in the food court (in front of the Panda Express) and gave them da nuclear missile in da butt.

He may be taking about "The Mall" though which I don't remember having a Panda Express...

Most of the time, I find it to be just fine. It's clean, easy to use, and unfortunately you get used to escalators being out (they own something like the most escalator-miles in the western hemisphere, some of which are exposed to the elements--morons).

Two things are making it bad:

Since the accident they've been running slower and this has overlapped with regular maintenance work and other slight problems (cracked rails, etc. that have to be repaired). They also have the Red Line (others?) cars spread farther apart so there are fewer of them, and hence they are more crowded. Oh, and they're on manual control.

The annual migration of tourists to DC.

thanks,

actually, no - having had this strain of influenza I can't get it again which means I don't have to fear it, I can go where ever I want. I was scheduled to be home for 3 weeks now, anyway, so I see no real problem. the one thing that I had to change was that my father was going to visit today for a week, but I don't need to expose a senior citizen to this so we changed his trip to the fall.

no true blood this week. I watch one tv show a week. It pisses me off when it doesn't show.

I've had federal inspectors here all week, and not only are they sub-moronic, the underpaid dolts are putting in 14 hour days...and they're salaried. I grow tired.
