I have to admit, seeing your ability to take this loss so well inspired me. As cheesy and bullshitty as that sounds, it's true. I got a rejection email from that dream job I interviewed for late Friday afternoon.

Absolutely crushed me, like a kick in the stomach. Hadn't felt that low in awhile. But it was a good reality check and as Piobrah told me over PM, being thwarted from time to time is actually a good thing.

In any case, I'm not looking for any sympathy here, but I do want to wish you and your family peace and thanks again for putting things into perspective for me. Life goes on, as they say.

Sorry to hear about the job, man. I know you had high hopes for it. I'm glad you have a good sense of perspective on it, and if I helped with that a bit, I'm glad for that too. smile.gif

Keep plugging, man. Getting that far into the process and getting rejected is so much worse than getting booted early. It feels like a bad breakup.

Yeah, it really does feel like a bad breakup. I got that gut sinking feeling and my heart started racing the moment I saw that email. Feels bad, man. But yeah, kinda glad it happened on Friday as it gave me the weekend to decompress. I feel a lot better now.

I'm sure it would have had its challenges, but I hate my current job. I've already applied for an internal role that would be a promotion, so hopefully that will tide me over for another couple months while I search for the next unicorn job.

My derailleur broke this AM. Was only two blocks from home, a car had just passed (I lost control of the bike and went flying into the other lane) and there was no one around so it could have been much worse.

Dang. I'm glad you're okay. A good friend of mine wrecked on his bike this summer (after his forks both snapped--what?!?!) and he has had a long, slow recovery. Another good friend just wrecked on his mountain bike on Thursday. He broke his femur right below the hip joint. He's got some new hardware and will be recovering at home for the next few weeks.

Some contractor got concrete splatter all over my bike.

I figured it would wash off pretty easily, but no, this shit is firmly attached. Who knew that cement would stick well to painted metal and aluminum...I can chip it off, but it would take something more agressive than a stiff brush and a softish plastic scraper. Don't want to scrape hard enough to scratch anything...

This happened a while ago so no way to track them back down and be pissed. It is my grocery getter bike that lives outside so I'm not too concerned...but it has handbuilt wheels (by me) and the rims seem to have gotten the worst of it so I am still kind of pissed. I bet they made sure they didn't get it on any parked cars on the street (or hosed it off if they did) but fuck some dude's bicycle.
