Was on the phone with T-Mobile to talk about their special promotion where you can get an iPhone 7+ for effectively $200 or so if you trade in an iPhone 6. That's right -- they're assigning a trade-in value of $600+ for an old iPhone 6. I have one collecting dust in my drawer so I thought why the hell not.
The promotion itself is pretty legit and I'm debating doing it. But the reason for this poast? The rep tried to get me to switch to their new T-Mobile One plan -- it has unlimited everything, including mobile hotspot, for $75. And if you enroll in Auto-Pay like I do, they knock off $5.
I'm currently on their Simple Choice plan that they launched two-ish years ago just when they started getting really aggressive with their Uncarrier initiatives. I pay $50 for unlimited data and $20 for unlimited talk and text. So, $70 and the same price as above.
I was soo close to switching over just so I could get that sweet, sweet unlimited hotspot (even though I can count on one hand the number of times I've used it in the past two years), but my gut feel told me I should hold on and do some more research.
Turns out I made the right call, cause the T-Mobile One plan has so many stipulations, the worst being that unlimited data is only unlimited if you limit streaming video to 480p. Fuck that. If you want unlimited HD streaming, which I get today with my Simple Choice plan, you have to pay $3 for an HD Day Pass.
Ugh. So deceptive! I knew it sounded too good to be true.
Edit: I should add that the plan I have now has been discontinued and I'm grandfathered in.
