That was sort of my point, to the extent I had one. I suppose now they use electronic sensors or whatever, but whether someone started moving just as the gun fired or whether they anticipated it and slightly jumped the gun is something about which an official could make an honest mistake or could fudge. The rules on a force play at first base are objective - it comes down to whether or not the throw beats the runner. Doesn't exactly eliminate the potential for controversy.

Did you see that beach volleyball match?

China calls for an instant replay review, commentators rewind the video and can see that China was clearly at fault. But then the review comes back in their favor, China wins and starts packing up to leave.

Their opponents start arguing with the judge, but the commentators are like "there is no appeal process, decisions are binding, it was the wrong call but they are stuck with it" and they cut away to an NBC tour of the rainforest some shit.

And then they suddenly cut back to volleyball! The ruling was somehow overturned, China forced to return to the field (although they win anyways)

The sport is supposed to be objective, especially with instant replays... But even then can get subjective fuck ups.

Also that Chinese volleyball player has the goofiest body... So weird looking for a pro volleyball player.

Something like that.

I don't care about the controversy. In fact, we should just have the Olympics be a week of women's beach volleyball.

China is still pissed because one of the Australian swimmers (Mack Horton) called out their silver medal swimmer (Sun Yang) for being a doper (he did get caught last year), and so the Chinese gov newspaper posted an 'opinion piece' blasting the Australian swimmer, and said that the country of Australia is a backwater anyway, and we can't expect anything better from British ex-penal colony.

Butthurt much?

Oh, and angry Chinese are flooding the Mack Horton's Facebook/Twitter/everything with insults.

The other thing about the Olympics is they should just let people dope or whatever they want.  Now you know people are cheating, but some get away with it while others don't.

It's good to see the Olympics carrying out its mission of fostering better fellowship between countries.

Just give all the golds to Tonga Man and put the rest of the $ towards a Zika vaccine and be done with it.

I was all ready to post some kind words for Ed about his dad, but then three more pages happened. I was feeling particularly sympathetic because I just returned from seeing my own dad for what will probably be the last time. frown.gif

Stay strong man. I'm going to lose it when the time comes for me.
