Maybe my mente is just on heightened state of alert or something but I'm not sure I buy the storm story fact is that the Blue Ox is a prime target for terrorists basically demoralize the people by toppling it.

Well, you returned so to paraphrase Deep Blue Something that's one thing we got.

So you're telling me they sometimes respond? I'm still at the very beginning, so I haven't been in touch with many recruiters yet, but the ones I have contacted haven't even had the decency to give me a "thanks for your inquiry" email.

I applied for a government job some years back, and they sent me a "we do not have any opening for someone of your qualifications" response nine months later.

Got an interview with the FBI something like six months after I applied. I was already working at another job by then. I don't know how they hire anybody, who can wait 6+ months for an interview?

The career government folks, particularly in HR, get in a mindset that the general public will jump at a government job whenever the offer comes along. They view a government job as the supreme example of all jobs so cannot fathom a rejection.

I tried to approach the CIA job booth at a career fair down south years ago. The lady's first question, "You American?" me: 'Canadian'. She then did the little curt wave in my face and said "byebye" like you would to a recalcitrant child lol. I shoulda yelled over my shoulder that CSIS or the RCMP are "betturrr anyway!" but I didnt. They're not better so it'd have been a lame retort and moreover I didn't want to get Three Days of the Condored for my insolence.

Yes, sometimes they respond, seemingly a robot does that work.  HR is the dregs of society.  I could fill this thread with just negative experiences with them.  Things will get better G, if not, you'll always have the sweet, sweet release of death to look forward to.

That's what happens any kind a political polling firm calls me and finds out that I actually live in Maryland and not Virginia.

At this point, I almost want to do a poll just so I can be included.

I don't think they poll in California . Either that or being on the old Nixon enemies list disqualifies me.

I don't know about everything but in a lot of fields a government job is necessary early-mid career to move on to more lucrative private sector jobs later. I know lots of people who left well paying contracting jobs to take a government job.
