There was a big winter storm coming, so my folks got a couple of big Sparkletts bottles (the kind you put upside down in the institutional water cooler) as a hedge against the pipes possibly freezing up in the storm. They put the bottles in the garage, where the water promptly froze overnight. Back in those Olden Tymes, the bottles were made from glass rather than plastic. And water expands when it freezes, blah blah. I don't think the pipes ended up freezing, but if they had and if there had been some benefit to having big bottle-shaped hunks of ice studded with bits of broken glass, we would have been totally set.

Sparkletts sucks! Arrowhead 4 life!

The bubbler conversation is interesting, but was no one else surprised to learn that Wisconsin had time machines in 1998?

Once when work was slow I took job with a plumbing contractor. I had just finished setting a row of new toilets in an industrial bathroom and realized I was thirsty as hell but all  the points of access to the cold water system were capped or hooked up . Well the toilets were new and so were the pipes they were connected to hmmm. So here I am on my hands and knees drinking out of this toilet bowl . Fortunately no one walked in

When I leave notes on my office door for viselters (like "Back in 5 minutes" and suchlike) I typically put them at a high height on account of I am somewhat tall. But then when people come to my office see the note they're like "I can't read it it's too high up there didn't know what I should do so I left." Now I've learned to put the notes lower, but it feels weird to do that.

So typically - buses don't arrive. When they do, they all come at once.

So I'm presented with four buses.

The front bus will naturally pick up all of the passengers first - this is the slowest bus.

The second bus will still have to stop at the designated stops, but will likely overtake at some point and then become the first bus.

The third bus is gospel - quickest, quietest, least populated bus.

The fourth bus is at the back of the pack and will remain there. Right?

So I pick the third bus, they "don't have enough change" for my ten pound note? So I run off, the second and fourth buses have already departed. I join the queue for the first bus - I'm on, three stops down the line there's a change of driver and I'm sat on a bus fifteen minutes waiting for the next driver to come along. All of the other buses are long gone at this point - two more buses come along and overtake us too.

I cannot stand public transport.
