There was an article in the newspaper yesterday about well educated expats moving to Scandinavia in large numbers for that work/life balance.

Why would anyone move to Scandinavia for work life balance?  If I lived in Scandinavia, I would want to work more to distract myself from the fact that I live in Scandinavia.

I'd do it!

Except I have decent enough work life balance right now...and don't have a work visa...and when I graduated from college I never heard back from any of the consulting firms I applied to where I checked the boxes for their Scandinavian offices.

Perhaps 1 year of language study is insufficient...

No it's because you are incompetent.

I'm growing increasingly bitter at everything. I hate myself for still having this job but I can't even get a phone call about anything else so I'm kind of stuck.

My personal life is stuck in the same place it's been not making me happy for a while so I'm stuck there.

I need to move so I can get a fresh start and not be in my comfort zone but the top line makes it hard to leave. I could go to b-school but that would still be 15 months away.

I don't want to move too far because my dad is in failing health and in his last years (if that long) so I don't know what to do there.

Even thinking about things I like doing like some of the clubs I'm in doesn't give me anything to look forward to. If someone said they wanted to take me fishing tomorrow and give me a round of golf on Thursday I'd still be upset.

On Saturday I'm throwing a party and I'm excited to see people and for the event itself but I've created such a toxic menthe for myself that I know betimes it is finished I'm just going to be upset (oh and Sunday is Mother's Day, so that'll be fun being hungover with my parents).

Anyway, I just need to rant.

Ed, be strong brother.

Moving to Scandinavia...right opportunity and I'd do it in a second. Same goes for the right opportunity in the UK, Spain, Portugal, France....

Most private sector companies have english as their coperate language and most offer language lessons etc., when workers arrive.

I was this " close to making that joke while writing the post. No, they are people you would actually want, who work and come via their EU passport or green cards and not the free loaders in the immigrant thread.

"Free" healthcare, "free" schools from grade 0 until uni, 6 weeks paid vacation each year, at least 32 weeks of paid maternity leave (Sweden has 18 months I believe, which both parents can use), standard work week is 37 weeks etc. etc.

Its illegal to leave your dog at home for more than 8 hours a day in Sweden, so they have a lot of doggy daycares.

What about the cats?  Can they be left alone for more than 8 hours?

Yes, rats, owls and children you don't like can also be left alone for longer.

True. However:
1. Most art, or at least art worth owning, is better experienced in the original than in a shitty screenshot printout. A recipe, however, is more information than artifact.
2. The folks who publish that book have a website where they post a number of their recipes online for people to read and use.

Instead of taking vacations, I just print out wikipedia articles and photos of the location I want to visit.

So much better no annoying Chinese and American tourists.

Used to print out posters in college so I didn't have to pay for them.

Rasterbating FTW!

(Yes,rasterbation is the act of splitting a giant picture into tiles that you can print out and then tape/put together later, and Voila! You have a 'poster')
