I think foodguy's next job should be tearing down the GMO boogeyman.

It's such a dumb thing too, like somehow changing genes through selective breeding is "more natural" and healthier than cutting out the middleman and doing it directly. We've been fucking with nature for thousands of years, we're just a lot better at it now.

I'm ok with that though, it's just marketing. Like having pork rinds labeled LOW CARB.

"On the left" is a relative concept.

The way I reason is why are [certain] companies fighting against mandatory labeling so much? If they're afraid it will scare away customers why not educate them? the lobbying against GMO labelling is extensive so I find it hard to believe they couldn't spend the same amount of money on a marketing campaign.

Theyre fighting it because

1. labeling that is a stupid thing to do

2. 'educate the people'? you have more faith in the logic of hipsters and the 'foodbabes' of the world than I do

On the other hand, if you make a GMO-free product, you are entirely capable of labeling it "GMO-Free".

Why should you have to place a mandatory label on every single food item that says "This item was created using ingredients that were grown using modern agricultural methods"?

I agree that the amount they are lobbying against it is a little offputting...but look at the people who buy into this crap. I mean...Chipotle made the switch to non-GMO. People buy into the anti-GMO hype, and those people will probably balk at "education" that is coming from any company that has ties to a GMO producer.

I don't eat gmo foods because they aren't natural. That's why i buy organic, artisinal food exclusively from Whore Foods.

Yes, this. "Why don't you just educate people", especially when random celebrities, attention whores, or "life hack" people with a business angle are considered reliable authorities seems a pretty facile suggestion. I've seen foodguy patiently, clearly, and politely try to educate people on this issue or the Fukushima issue. Many people have spent countless hours and words trying to "educate" anti-vaxxers.

Based on what I see and hear from people all the time, food sellers are absolutely right to be worried that if you require labels indicating whether or not your product contains DMHO, a significant number of consumers will conclude that means that DMHO-free food is safer and healthier.

This is because now we're at another of those things happening I was talking about in the other thread. How issues develop to be a "left" or "right" thing is inconsistent and often has little to do with fact or reason.

Is that a Mexican standoff? I only ask because I don't know if there at least has to be one Mexican in it
