For your sake I hope it's not Atlantis. That place is a complete hell hole in peak season.

Supposedly they picked it because some family friend had a hookup for a "great deal," but it ended up being exactly what you'd get with Expedia.

So they get a good deal and dont pass it on to you guys? Or its that expensive with the 'discount'

So now we get the announcement with all the details. It's at a 4* resort in the Bahamas, in peak season. Making a week out of it is going to be my entire vacation budget for the year, even just going for a three day weekend is about as much as I'd normally spend on a vacation. This is like "safari in Africa" or "trip to Europe" money, just to go to an all-inclusive resort with a beach. It's double what we spent on our own honeymoon.

The more I think about it, the more irritated I am. My wife can't stand to miss events, so it's going to end up either with me being the bad guy or spending a lot more money than I'd want to and missing out on a trip that I'd much rather do.

My recently engaged friend just asked me how annoying it is to have a sunday wedding vs a saturday wedding. I told him that only assholes have weddings on sunday night. Then he spent some time trying to justify it and finding wedding websites where people are like "no, they are ok...." I mean...nobody is going to call you out on it if you actually do it, but it still fucks over all of your out of town and/or hard drinking guests.

At least he didn't ask me if a 4* resort in the Bahamas was annoying...

It's also annoying (to me at least) when a friend asks your opinion on something like that and then argues with you about it.

One of my best friends is getting married.  They're doing it on a cruise, and he was like, "we're doing it on a cruise so people won't come" and "we're going to have several parties when we get back" because one is from CA, one is from WI, and they now live in DC.

Seems to me like the people I know who are the most vocal about which foods are and aren't healthy are also the biggest alcoholics...

People are such gutless weasels about weddings. Just go to the courthouse and then go on vacation, don't invite anybody. Throwing out the invites and assuming nobody will come puts people in a lousy situations trying to decide how much you really want them to come.

I think my friends actually expect some of us to come, is the thing. I just don't know why it had to be a top flight resort, during prime season, in a location that's considerably more expensive to fly to. They've always been the "price is no object" sort, even in grad school when none of us had any money. I remember her recommending a restaurant that was "only $150 a person," when we were grad students. I had to laugh.

I had someone chide me for drinking a Diet Coke, while they were drinking Fireball out of a mug and smoking.

Definitely be the bad guy in this one. It's easy to say "sorry, we actually already have our vacation plans set in stone for this year. We'll be sure to get you a nice gift when you get back, though."

Most expensive meal I had was at Gary Danko in SF. Was okay. Not too memorable, tho it was the first time I ever had foie gras.

To me Restaurant Gary Danko is just a wannabe Chipoltee. Why settle for imeltation when you can have the real thing?
