I am, but we don't have a DB plan. There was once such a plan (there are some older folks around here who have it), but it was phased out before I got here. We do have a DC plan with a pretty generous match, but it doesn't warrant staying given the potential salary differential and fact that most employers have some form of 401k program.

I suppose it also depends how many digits of bonus we are talking about. Lots of places give $500 holiday bonuses, but that's not really worth changing jobs over. High bonus industries tend to just represent variable income and higher risk. It lets the company absorb bad years, where if that money had been promised as guaranteed salary, they might have to resort to layoffs.

At least for me, I make sure to live below my base salary amount, because it is entirely possible I could just not get a bonuse at all one year. The bonus is for saving and maybe spending on some non-essential toys/extravagances (booking that 2-3 Michelin star reservation for the gf and I soon... Gotta blow some of it to encourage you to keep earning more, saving 100% just isn't exciting)

It's hard to imagine I'd end up in a place where my bonus would be a material consideration. I don't have any interest in transitioning into a position that comes with that much risk. If something comes with a bonus, even a modest one, great, but it's not a primary concern.

For me, this is about base salary and work environment.

For me work is about not doing too much and hanging on until 65. frown.gif

Was originally thinking about Banff. Never been, but hear the spring skiing is good and it is absolutely beautiful...and with the exchange rate, it is pretty cheap.

But then I found a deal at Snowbird for 5th night free and free lift tickets. Was originally going to pass because lodging up there is really expensive...you can stay cheap down the canyon closer to SLC, but if you luck out and get a bunch of snow, the mountain pass closes and you won't be able to make it to the mountain before noon. But now I think we are just under $1500 (including taxes) for 5 nights and 5 days of lift tickets for 2 people which is somewhat reasonable.

I'm visiting family, so I'll be sort of all over. My daughter is a freshman at BYU and my wife's family mostly lives in that valley so Provo will be our main stop. My parents and sister (and her family) live up in Logan (almost in Idaho) so we'll make the trek up there to see them as well. I expect we'll shoot up to Park City somewhere during the week. I'm not a skier so I doubt I will be up at any of the resorts.

Just found out max salary. It'd be a little more than I'm making now but not substantially if I got the max. Still excited!

Watching a tv show about kids on junk food diets, they have just visited a children's dental hospital and the surgeon just said, that its common for them to pull 8-12 teeth on children due to decay, wtaf.

I was at the dentist the other day, kid in the next chair was maybe 10. She was going to have to get 12 teeth pulled. Her teeth were completely brown. At 10.

The dentist was trying to tell the mom that she needed to restrict access to sugar and refined bread products, and Mom just didn't get it. Like, how does sugar have to do with tooth decay?

Oh well won't matter pretty soon at least as far as her dental health is concerned

That's appalling. I've got to think that that kid's mouth hurts all the time.

Was the mom fat?

It's a completely crazy program series, one of the dads has just said "I want my kids to be happy, so I buy them what they want, so what if they need a couple teeth pulled". They are currently giving a 13 yo a gastric bypass. baldy[1].gif

This has to be child neglect.

Gonna bore you guys with a great dentist story . During ww2 my dad served with the First Marines in the South Pacific .On Guadalcanal they were told not to drink any of the water on the island . Well my dad thinks to himself " I can't drink it but I gotta brush teeth' as long as I don't swallow Im gonna be fine. Fast forward months later the First Marines are on stand down on New Guinea . Dad gets sent see the dentist who informs him he has some sort of tropical bug that has decayed every tooth in his head. Every day for 20 something days my dad reports to this Marine dentist who has a corpsman peddling a bicycle frame rigged to a dental drill.Every day they drill and fill till the corpsman is worn out. Needless to say my dad never had a cavity the rest of his life

That sure beats the time I was eating chicken fingers in the DFAC and a filling fell out and a Navy dentist in a fully equipped dental trailer on the FOB replaced it for me.

I've never splurged with any of my bonuses. Goes straight to savings / investments.

Seeing my net worth go up is more exciting than blowing a couple grand on some material shit I won't care about in two weeks.

But I guess there's a happy medium where you can splurge on a fancy meal. Maybe instead of the two cheeseburger meal at mcd's, I'll get the angus beef burger combo ☺️
