Until recently, in California courts even if you successfully challenged a ticket they'd still make you pay the court administrative fees (don't really remember the amount, around $50 I think). Utter fucking bullshit of course. Sometime last year or state Supreme Court's Chief Justice eliminated that requirement.
I was pissed when it happened to me on general principle, but it was particularly egregious in its impact on low-income folks who make hourly or daily wages. Lose a day's pay to go to court and deal with that bullshit, most likely pay for parking at the courthouse, prove to a judge that the ticket was unjustified, and then still have to pay what might be a half-day's (or more) net take-home pay just because the court system has budget problems and you touched it last.
It was a great move by the CJ to eliminate that unjust requirement, but real justice would be if the police department has to pay the fees if the ticket is found to be invalid.

Until recently, in California groceries even if you went there unsuccessfully seeking gesha coffee they would still charge you a fancy-pants fee.

When people want to go out on Friday (or Thursday here). I'm too tired from the week and just want to go home and sleep in tomorrow. Why do people want to go out on Fridays?

They got rid of it when it was pointed out that the name promotes rape culture.

I'm old enough to be your father and I get up around 5am. I go out most Fridays. When I was your age I was out Thurs-Sat for sure and often Sunday. WTF is wrong with you?

Actually, I realized that I have the energy to go out tonight but with English speaking friends.

I still occasionally get a letter in the mail for not paying a toll fee in Maryland six or so years ago. Never ended up on my credit report and I figure it has to be reaching it's statue of limitations soon.

Blow off steam? It'd do wonders for my credit card if I stayed in more on Fridays. Anyway I generally prefer Thursdays (fewer rookies out) and Saturdays (Last night of the weekend!) but I still wind up out on Fridays more often than not.

Looks like there was a actual fight between a philosophy professor and his female student (he was her dissertation director) at KU Leuven. Leuven is in Belgium but unfortunately a lot of people don't understand the difference between Belgian and Dutch basically has got people to having negative views of the Dutch.

Was the student Dutch? Because Belgians are usually less rambunctious.

In my experience, Fridays work fine if you do it right away.

If you leave work, go to a happy hour, start drinking, eventually eat something, keep up a certain level of consumption, it is ok.

If you go home and relax...maybe go out a little later and eat a booze free or one drink dinner. Then you will be tired. You'll be full and not very thirsty, so even if you go to a lively bar, you'll drink one beer slowly and just feel extra full and tired. Certain levels of excitement/shots/caffeine/etc might break you out of this...but that time to calm down after work really is a killer.
