And now these god damn things are standard on many cars...id pay extra to remove them. The problem too is that I keep getting sucked into their trap and leaving the key in my briefcase...instead of doing the smart thing and just pretending they don't exist and using the fob 100% of the time

I think its just some manufacturers. The wifes vw sucks at it (you touch the handle, no button). My Nissan is f'ing amazing and I never want another car without it (it has a button to push) or the push button start. thumbs-up.gif

HRoi, is it with the Macan S?

Never had any issues with the comfort access when I had my M5. But I mostly used the fob to unlock the car anyway. Never developed the habit of just pulling the handle when locked.

It's the M3. BMW comfort access, my ass.

(Actually it's GF's ass that is a comfort to access, but I am just borrowing an expression )

My GS is pretty good. A gloved hand on the front passenger door sometimes is a bit finicky. The trunk button in the cold is a wholely different matter.

What happens to push to start cars when they get old and shitty?

Like...can you still hold it longer to let the engine keep turning over, hoping it will catch?

If you have a manual, can you do a push start or roll it down a hill in gear and then let out the clutch?

No, I don't want to have to press the brake pedal and push some button to start the car. It's so unsatisfying.

Nothing will replace dat satisfaction of turning your key to crank the ignition.

It really was a great read, and it had the added benefit of making me never, ever, ever want to climb Mt. Everest.

My house is near the city but has some nice woods around it. There's a fucking owl right outside my house fucking hooting its ass off riling up all the neighborhood dogs (and mine).

We figured out, by the hoot that its a Barred Owl. I'm kind of dreading hearing other things like foxes/coyotes/ect.

The coyotes by our house can get so loud they've woken me up from a sound sleep. I'm listening to them howl right now.

They will keep cranking until they detect the engine has actually fired (usually by just looking at the signal from the crank sensor). On lots of cars, even before push button start, you could just turn the key to "start" and release it immediately and it would crank till it started (for cars that could run both e85 and gas it usually had to crank slightly longer on e85 than gas -- making it crank till started was a simple way to avoid people releasing the key too soon).

I've never though about question 2, since the take rate on manuals is so low I doubt they put much thought into it.

Nah, that was a prior experience around 3am in the morning. They party here nightly.

You're so edgy, FindFinn. It makes me harder than a blood diamond.
