Was in morning meeting and they had a plate of bagels out. Only two left, and I was curious because it had sugar on it like a sugar donut.

I spread some cream cheese on it and....

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
IT WASN'T SUGAR ON IT LIKE A SUGAR DONUT. IT WAS FUCKING SALT. ffffuuuu.gif . it was was so much damn salt, just pure salt into my unsuspecting tongue/mouth that it started to burn my lips. It was so salty that my mouth FILLED WITH COPIOUS AMOUNT OF SALIVA and rejected the mouthful of PURE SALT BAGEL. WTF NASHVILLE? WHY YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE REGULAR BAGELS?

The question to me is do poor parents have bad eating habits that the pass on to their children?  There was a long period of my childhood where we were poor.  My parents both grew up in upper-middle class households, and by the age of like 6, I lived in a solidly middle class or upper middle class household.

Some days I don't get enough sleep to where I am very tired and then I make bad life choices like consume drugs and visit prosteltutes and go into a jail cell to "cool my heels." Now I am back home though.

I've some thoughts on this but they're just musings.

One thought is an observation I made when I was about 20. I dubbed the phenomena "The Peasant Syndrome" back when I was still definitely a peasant. I was working banquets bars at the university and I quickly noticed something about open bars and buffets. Those that were accustomed to such activities ate and drank what they would normally eat and drink. Those unused to being treated like this would gorge and drink their faces off. Constant comments of, "It's free! I'm drinking all I can!" This rather mirrors the observations in the link so it seems Piob was onto something nearly three decades ago.

I did not get fat for those reasons though. I was actually a skinny kid and did not enjoy eating that much. I didn't lose touch of my body's cues until my late 30s when I became the typical formerly athletic guy that stopped being athletic but kept eating like he was. Now that I've changed my dietary intake to more healthy patterns, and started working out again, I don't have to diet to maintain my weight meaning this particular problem of poverty was one I did not inherit.

Interesting link but I think they missed some items too. The whole Sprite thing...just being accustomed to consuming that speaks to SES I think. They didn't address fitness and I bet level of fitness impacts the ability for one to interpret the body's cues. Just a couple things off the top of my head. It's an interesting area of study, and if I were to go back into public health in a research track, one I might be interested in. I still think obesity in the poor is partly to blame due to the low expectations placed on them and excuses created but that's CE shit.

it amused me that buffets here in the states it's - All You Can Eat!

but in the Philippines buffets are often labeled: EAT ALL YOU CAN !

I know salt bagels. I like salt bagels. The ones I've had have rock salt like a salted pretzel. This one was dipped in fucking regular table salt.

When I was dating batshit crazy Quezon City girl I can remember taking some of her FOB relatives to a buffet in Taylortucky, Michigan. To watch the fobbies interact with the rednecks in that setting was incredibly interesting.

There's this writing style I do not like prevalent in modern opinion journalism. I can't exactly put my finger on it, but it usually involves a lot of rhetorical questions that the writer believes expose some deep truth. Usually the writing is on the level of a college newspaper's opinion column.
