Snow sports?

Can't control the weather, might as well learn to love it.

So I am a type 1 diabetic like a few others Ive found on here. Well today I had some injections in my thumbs (no not SF thumbs) that shot my blood sugar through the roof. Ive taken almost 60% more insulin today than I normally do and Im still riding high. frown.gif

Clarification: no good comes from snow on the streets and sidewalks.

NADA!

On May 19 they make a statement about which is a superior city. Marked by which one they alight from the tour bus at.

Sucks. Pump?

Nah, no pump.  I used to have a job that I needed to get into confined areas to which I didnt want to subject a pump getting ripped off etc.  I stayed up late checking every hour and injecting more and more insulin.  I've got it down today but man that was scary.  I ended up doubling my daily dosage.  Crazy.

What'd they inject you with?

I had to take corticosteroids awhile ago and it just wrecked my sugar. I was doing 3x my usual insulin while not eating any carbs. Carbs were just impossible, never figured out a ratio that even came close to handling it.

Yeah it was a steroid to help inflammation in my thumb tendons.  I too am having a crazy time.  Usually 5 units will lower me 100mg/dl  Yesterday I took 10 units and my level did nothing.

Stupid external recruiters playing the bait and switch on me.

Reached out to me for a role that was pitched as an upward move. Take the call after some phone tag and she tells me it's a lateral move for a contractor position.

Fuck off.

I told her I wasn't interested and ended the call within 45 seconds.

The shoes I'm wearing today are a bit too "ostentatious" for the rest of my fairly conservative ensemble. I know some of you are already asking "Why did you choose to wear those shoes then? Don't you pick out your own clothes like a reglar adult?" Yes, I do. But I got pain on my pinky toe and the more appropriate shoes would have aggervated said pain. So I "made a business decision" as they say in football.

How difficult it is to juggle work and childcare in a 2 worker home.

Heard the stories for years from co-workers but figured they were just complainers. Since my kid came into this world we have had nothing but trouble with negotiating a balance between work and home and even though we have a full-time nanny to make that easier it's still anything but. Our nannies have proven extremely unreliable and regularly call in sick with no notice and or pull other shenanigans. I know we aren't alone here and accept that the SF labor market and cost of living works against me.

I am counting the days until we are free from the tyranny of child care but perhaps we need to face the reality that it's basically impossible to have two working parents unless at least one has an extremely accommodating role. I downsized my job to make things easier by reducing commute and hours but still struggling to make it all work.

Someone (Mr G?) should start a parenting rant thread.

It is tough.  My wife and I have 3 kids (2 of which are 4 month old twins)  Luckily we fell into a nanny that lives 2 blocks away, is fairly affordable, and has a good work ethic.  I had to switch to a lower paying job in order to be home more.  The wife has a fairly accommodating job and her retired (but young) parents are ready to help out whenever.  The only time I get to leave the house is for work and to grocery shop.  :violin:

Problem is once you are free of the child care tyranny, along comes college and wipes you out financially. (unless you are rude like my parents and made me pay for everything)
