Just had my first fight with my fiancee. We've been together for two years, and we've managed to get by this long without a fight (lots of healthy communication). But facts are facts...I work too much and I don't see things in a "work vs her" mentality. She does. Things are dealt with...we talked through it for a solid hour and are both content with the result, but still...

that was a ******* terrible, terrible feeling.

Seriously, I think from now on my knee-jerk reaction to anybody that has a fight with their significant other is to immediately offer to buy them a beer.

It is such an awful feeling.

Well, such is the nature of two people who are committed to a future together.

Two years without a fight? Wow!
The "work vs. her" problem is really thorny though, IME. I've gotten myself in that argument on more than one occasion.

Same here. Actually have one simmering at the moment.

well, by fight, i mean very significant disagreement/argument about something. not all out crazy yelling fighting. i have never had that, thank g-d.

We had one just last week. Holidays, man.

Family members that think Im FedEx.
Ship your ******* gifts, I don't like traveling with other people's crap.

I may change your screen name to FedTex.

yep. there's nothing more fun than talking about how great gun ownership is, how boston was the height of music and comparing old navy jean fits.

:slayer: Boston (no not really)

Fights with yelling and throwing things (and occasional domestic violence) were the norm in my childhood experience. It took me a long time to learn that that wasn't actually how all relationships went. Even today, though, I am always keenly aware of anything that might happen to cause a terrible fight.

My dad was pretty bad at times, just a ferocious temper - but you really had to push him. Some Mommie Dearest moments in my childhood, which I'm careful to avoid.

BTW, since we're talking about relatives and the Holidays and Things Pissing You Off - I think Ive had quite enough of my younger brother. He didn't ruin Christmas for me, but he sure made it unpleasant for my parents, and I'm not about to have my daughter exposed to his ****** mood swings, petulance, entitled attitude, and anti-social avoidance. **** him.

Incidentally, I was reminded of a comment from a friend about family being less a biological determination and more a matter of shared values and priorities. I kind of identified with that.

you know how our mysterious God works... now your fiancé will be pregnant with twins by march.

That really would be a miracle! I wonder how the twins would get out?

those really wide side-by-side strollers for two kids piss me off. they tie those motorized conveyances for disabled (read: really fat) people for the win in the category "super inconvenient and inconsiderate inventions that you're not supposed to complain about"

Hounding clients for money. I did a guy a favor by letting him pay his fee in two payments (something I should have learned a long time ago not to do) and he decides to leave town today without paying me. :fu:

I needed that money too.

Inorite? Worst thing is, it was actually due yesterday and I was going to call because I had a feeling this was going to slip his mind, but I thought, "nah, give him the benefit of the doubt and call him in the morning if you don't hear from him today."

Mostly mad at myself, though. The next time someone can't pay the whole bill upfront I'm just going to tell them to stuff it.

I know people are going through hard times and I try to work with people, but when they don't respond to calls and don't make any effort to pay any amount of money I have to cut them loose.

Day three of visiting the folks for the holidays. My mom had her bi-annual ranting breakdown/fit (always fueled in part by the existence of my white girlfriend).
Not even a thing that's pissing me off at this point-- just something I'm glumly accepting as an unpleasant part of my life.

Good luck to you. I had to scold my Mom again yesterday for behaving like a child, overreacting and claiming I was neglecting her. Fun times.

I spent three hours at the gym this morning to atone for last night's meal and drinking and to get ready for a bigger meal tonight. Though, honestly, it was more about escaping to have time to myself away from relatives. It was glorious.

Heh, same here, J2. Did three miles on the treadmill and some light weights. Was going to go farther but I need to go get fitted for quality shoes. Left knee, which is my good knee, started kicking so I went down to a fast walk and no incline.

Think I might need to fast a day or two between Xmas and NYE.

I'm at work.

Good news is I broke out the secret bottle of bourbon every attorney has in his lower left desk drawer. Every attorney. Cheers.
