Things That Are Bothering You, Got You All Hibbeldy-Jibbeldy, or just downright pissed, RIGHT NOW! - Page 5312

I have decided that I will refuse to patronize any restaurant or pub with decorative faux-vintage marquee signs. That fad needs to die.

I've had it up to here with British people be say "chune" to mean tune and "churmeric" to mean turmeric and suchlike. There's a stereotype that British people are really good at English but obviously they are not if they can't even say a simple word like "tune."

I don't hate it, but I don't love it, which is coincidentally my opinion of Gehry's architecture.

What you think of this one?

(Coincidentally, the article with this photo describes the Disney Hall organ's pipes as "humongous french fries in disarray.")

I like it a ton. It's modern and not something that will look dated in five years. The pipe arrangement looks like musical notes and together it feels like they are on a staff. By keeping everything together it makes the organ appear very forceful--which is how it should be.

Where is that one located? I'd like to read a review of the organ so I can sound as if I have any idea how to critique an organ's musical performance.

Madison, Wisconsin. Installed in 2004.

I have no idea how to critique an organ's musical performance, either, but I do know an organ builder who will talk your ear off, especially when he's had a few beers.

I used to work in a warehouse that had been converted to an office by gehry very earmy in his career. Even thoygh you could still see the bones of the design lots of the details had been lost but oddly the bathroom was completely intact and the stairwell still had the chain link fencing...

It worked fine. I haven't had a chance to see the Disney hall, I'd expect it to be excellent inside

Ordered something from Amazon Prime 2-day shipping on Monday. It's not scheduled for delivery until Wednesday. Still showing as Prime-eligible on the product page. Called up Amazon. Tried to reorder with 1-day shipping. Same deal, delivery on Wednesday.

At least I got a promo credit to cover the cost of the item, but it's something I need this weekend, so now I have to drive 40 minutes round trip and buy it in an actual store.

I worked in a Gehry building this summer. A couple little glitches, but generally impressive.

I ordered something I thought had Prime shipping, and then saw that it's not going out until February 1st. Turns out some seller in Germany had it for nine cents cheaper and it defaulted to that option for some reason. Waiting a month to save nine cents, sure, thanks Amazon.

I could cancel the order, but it's not something I need right away so I guess I'll deal with it.

Amazon's fulfillment and reliability have dropped off considerably. Their eagerness to be the gateway storefront for everything at the cost of accountability, QC, etc. is, in my opinion, slowly eroding many of the qualities that has made them successful. Pretty soon they're just going to be an aggregator site with a substantial name recognition/marketing advantage.

Sounds like someone initiated a short position or bought some puts.

It's weird, because at the same time, they're adding in all these one-day and same day shipping items. There's like a three week spread in shipping options depending on whether it's in-house or not, and it's kind of annoying having to pay attention. Even if you filter it, going through one screen of suggested items removes the filter (probably how I missed it).

Closed that out already - quick one-day turnaround. Markets too hibbedly-jibbeldy right now to maintain exposure to that shit.

I just had the oddest thing happen to me. Ordered a box of my wine glasses on the weekend. They come in sets of six, I open the box, and there's only five. Really odd. However, I emailed customer service and asked for the sixth glass and their reply was they could not replace a single glass...so they sent me an entire new set.

Five extra stems at $10 each for free. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif
