Hm.

They have real roundabouts, but they have these as well.

What the fuck? There should be a mandatory person standing out there with a slide whistle.

Why the fuck would cities start using roundabouts when they know Americans can't even use four way stops correctly? Or use the proper lane, which might even be more important for a roundabout??!

Long beach has a traffic circle (technically a roundabout - there is a difference), #1 place for traffic accidents about 10 years in a row

Like I said it's not the roundabouts fault, it's the lack of driver training in the US.

Roundabouts are great and super efficient, but they would fail catastrophically in the U.S. because they aren't ingrained in our culture.

I wonder how many times idiots reverse to go back? How can people be so stupid yet get issued a license?

We have them around here, and they generally work well in the right context. They seem to function very well at small, low-speed intersections that would otherwise be a four-way stop. There's one in particular that I drive frequently, and I've actually noticed an impressive lack of stupidity.

The biggest roundabout failure I've ever seen was when I was still in Florida, and they decided to put a huge one at an intersection near the beach. Some brilliant transportation planner thought it would be a good idea to beautify this enormous structure with an attendantly enormous fountain, which created a spectacular mess when mixed with the persistent sea breeze.

They have started to use the "Michigan left" at busy intersections here. The first one they tried it at is one of the busiest in the city. I saw how they had it laid out and actually called the department to tell them that was not a Michigan left as someone that drove in Michigan for many years. Their collector lane for the people wanting to go left was too near the intersection and too short so it would mess up traffic flow something terrible. I tried to tell the PM that but he scoffed at me. Fast forward a year and I called him back. He told me he'd been waiting for my, "I told you so" phone call. He was stand up enough to admit I was quite correct, and at the cost of many thousands of tax payer dollars, it's been redone properly. I can't believe no one else with actual credentials didn't see this was going to happen.

We now have them in Michigan and they seem to work pretty well.

They could start with the using signs they used to have in Swedish roundabouts for the summer holidays and the Norwegian invasion (Norway is one of the few countries with worse summer weather than Sweden): "Norwegians maximum five laps" not sure how many laps the Danes were allowed, maybe ten?

Pretty sure we don't have a max, as roundabouts are considered as straight road in the road traffic law and you are therefor required to blink, when turning out of it.

Pretty sure it was a joke.

Also the few signs that were posted were hand written.

So maybe it was 20 laps for the danes then?

It wouldn't surprise me if they have laws about that in Sweden, they have laws about everything else.

Fucking Verizon. I signed up for FIOS when I first moved into my new apartment and bought my own FIOS router so I wouldn't have to rent one and pay a rental fee. I made sure to tell this to the rep when signing up and he assured me I would not get charged for a rental. In fact, the only reason why I was speaking to a phone rep was BECAUSE I wasn't renting a router. Turns out you can't sign up for FIOS online if you aren't renting a router and they require you call in for such a setup.

Anyway, a month ago, I checked my bill and noticed that the fuckers were charging me for the rental since inception. I called and told them about this. They said they were sorry and would credit me the charges, as well as make sure it wouldn't happen again.

Fast forward to latest bill and they continue to charge me for it. Not only that, they never refunded me for the prior charges. And the kicker? They charged me a $99 fee for failing to return a router rental that I never had in the first fucking place.

Of course I'm now playing phone tag with multiple reps and keep getting transferred around. Have been on the phone for an hour already and had to restart the process because in the middle of one of the transfers, they disconnected me.

............................................

I'm past the point of being mad. I'm just sitting here dumbfounded that a corporation could be so incompetent.
