If you can't get regular sex without the help of roommates, I'm guessing the amount of privacy you do or don't have at home for sex is irrelevant. The bathroom stall at work should be sufficient.

I live in Hollywood, or near enough. But I'm cool with the fact that other people live in different places than me literally and figuratively, as befits them.

I hope we have another housing crash so I can buy cheap too.

Most places haven't fully recovered and probably won't for a couple years, I don't know how the interest rates are in the US at the moment, but house loans goes for 1-3%pa here at the moment. A friend actually GETS money from his bank instead of them getting interests.

Geographical chauvinism is a truly California art form

In these parts, NYC has become the master.

Oh please, I was a 17 IQ loser before that.

I've been seeing lots of St. Louis chauvinism on the Styleforum website as of late seems reasonable though.

I have to decide soon if I want to switch to a different office.

Pros of my current office:
- Relatively Big, 110-120 sq ft.
- Lots of desk space (about 40sq ft U shaped)
- Built in shelving and file cabinets, room to store boxes under desks
- On the "main floor" of our building with the receptionist, better bathrooms, primary kitchen, top brass, etc.
Cons of my current office:
- Window only sees other buildings.
- Built in furniture/carpet is a bit old and worn.
- Obnoxious billing woman has moved into a cubicle outside my office.
- People immediately surrounding my office aren't those I interact with much.

Pros of new office:
- Window has a real view. Sees over the top of buildings and sees some of the park and the lake (but you only get the lake view if you lean towards the window and look out).
- Whole floor was redone last year so walls/carpet are in great shape. Brightly lit, etc.
- Newer, nicer desk surface.
- On the floor with all of the cool kids.
Cons of new office:
- Smaller , 90-95 sq ft.
- No built in shelving and the guy is taking his open bookshelf with when he moves. The alternative big, metal bookcases will be imposing in the small space.
- On what might be a fairly high traffic hallway.
- Only 15 sq ft of desk space (a 3'x6' desk).
- Kind of inefficient layout forced by the shape of the building. Can't get the desk right up against the window which leaves an awkward space...maybe could figure out how to fit some extra work surface onto that space with come DIY work.

I don't need a lot of space...but I have a bunch of crap right now. Some of that is just that I have expanded to fit the space available (could ditch old case files that just sit on shelves now), but I like that I can turn around and use empty desk space now with my big U shaped desk. The new desk will pretty much be taken up by my computer, monitors, phone, and a few random notebooks/books.

Still though...dat view! Even with my current lack of a view, I look out the window very often just to give my eyes a break.

And I am not sure I will necessarily get a better option any time soon. The guy who sits next to me now is ahead of me in line and he would have taken it if it were just a little bit better (little bigger or little less awkward layout)...So I would need more than one upgraded location to open up before it gets to me.

The obvious answer is get an office mate. Not only will it increase your social life, and help you get laid more, it will cost less for a far larger office.

I think my office may have originally been built for two (or at least housed two workers in the past)...

Given the choice between the office-mate and the studio-office, I would definitely take the studio by myself.

Also is anyone actually arguing that roommates get you laid (besides larry's sugar daddy)?

I don't think they should inhibit you (and you don't really want any chick who is going to refuse to sleep with you because you ahve roommates at 26), and while you might get to sleep with some of their friends, but I don't think that should be a prime consideration.

And hey, I know someone who looked at an apartment, didn't move in but kept in touch with the potential roommate, and then started dating someone she met through them. So you don't even have to actually live with the roommate if you just want to sleep with their friends.

So what you're saying is troll the CL ads looking for roommates is a good way to get laid?

To your office question the answer is clear: what confers more social status: the size or the view?
