I know there is a Seinfeld sketch about this...but you would think things might have changed a little with the advent of the internet.
Made a U-Haul reservation a while ago to help my GF move at the end of the month. She has to be out the night of the 31st and can't be in until the morning of the 1st...so there's no way around parking the stuff in a truck overnight and moving in in the morning.
So I reserved the truck for 24 hours starting at 6PM on the 31st. Today they call me and tell me they can't do that and that I'd need to have the truck back by the time they open on the 1st. Something about "the trucks make multiple rentals in a day" and that I could instead rent a different truck for use on the 1st. Finally convinced them to let me have the truck until 9AM which should be enough time...
Well what's the fucking point of making a reservation in advance? Don't fancy computer systems exist to make this possible? I know trucks get busy at the end of the month...that's why I reserved the damn thing far in advance and made sure to specify how long I would need.
Their reservation guarantee is laughable bullshit
. First, they promise to give you $50 if they don't have a truck. What the fuck are you going to do with $50 on the 31st of the month? You certainly aren't going to find another rental place with trucks available. Second, that guarantee doesn't apply until the local store contacts you and confirms the reservation which they say might happen the day before the reservation. What the fuck are you going to do the day before moving day when U-Haul cancels on you and doesn't even give you $50 to drink away your sorrows?
