I don't really care what people wear in the office, but it was his first day. Him not showing up at least a little bit dressed up strikes me as odd.

We had a staff meeting about some stuff and he was introduced to the whole department. The Director asked him to say a few things about himself and he says "I'm so and so and I am just happy to have a job" and that's it. Also, he sits there with his headphones on all day and leaves without telling anybody. He also is one of those guys who always has a story to top somebody else's, or a fact, or piece of logic that counters what somebody says in a very "as a matter of fact" sort of way. Kind of like a young A_Y. Also, I was being pissy because this wedding that I have to go to tomorrow the groom texted me to tell me I need brown shoes. I am P-fucking-B I don't own brown shoes! So this new hire said that he has some brown shoes I could borrow from him, but they are cowboy boots. Fuck you, man. Seriously. He has also been very outspoken about politics in the office. I asked him on his first day if he is good at a particular skill. Rather than giving me an answer like, "I have learned it, but it needs to be developed" or something like that he just says, "I did the worst in that class than any other one, but I didn't try very hard." This guy has got to go. So much fail in only three days.

Also, we have a summer intern who is a Sophomore in college. She's awesome, so much more driven and engaged than this dickhead. I can't even believe this guy is here. There's no way he makes it.

I only read halfway through this and I already gave it a thumbs-up.

My boss asked me to do my own performance evaluation. I don't mind this in principle, and I think it can be a useful management tool. Problem is, this is my first evaluation in this job, so I don't have any reference for how they're typically done here. I really want to give an earnest appraisal, but I keep going back and forth on whether I'm being too generous or too critical.

Ugh, the "self-assessment" is a passive aggressive tool of assholes.

I actually don't think that's what it is. Based on the stories I've heard, it sounds like it started that way in my department, but now it's just how things work for the professional-level employees.

I told once I was ready for promotion which meant taking her job.

She didn't see the funny side of it.

"I think the biggest negative aspect about myself is that I work too hard"

"I'm too generous with my time."
