Probably one of many reasons you would have fired me. smile.gif

Of course, part of the problem is that those service guys aren't setting their schedule -- the company is. And in many instances, it's a company that has monopolistic leverage. Moving into a new place and getting cable installed? Often there's only one provider, or maybe two who both have the same shitty approach to customer service. Or having another phone line put in?

Plumbers and repair people are different. For a dishwasher repair person, I'd probably tell the guy booth hired to fuck off and find someone who could give me an actual appointment time. But I don't know if booth is a renter or operating under a home warranty service or something where he doesn't have unfettered choice.

IDK, even Cox is down to a two hour window now. I think we've been flexing in the last 10 years that consumers won't be "grounded" for a day for breaking something.

Agree it's probably (probably!) not the working stiff's fault but we have to hate him too just like people hate people that work for Chic Fillet.

I know some people who claim they can tell a Chinese character from a Korean character at first glance but I find it impossible.

Yeah, but the trick is that Harold gets to keep the coin either way.

Korean has some round letters. Chinese doesn't have round characters.

Lol, itt rich bastards who can't do household repairs. I'd rather slit my own throat than call a plumber.

There's "can't" and then there's "don't want to." One is better than the other.

Applying on websites is about as useful as stuffing a pile of ants into a mug attached to helium balloons and letting them fly away. Apply online first then force yourself into the building to talk to HR or hiring manager.

When I apply for jobs, I never just submit my shit online and hope for the best. Once I find a position at a company I'm interested in, I immediately search LinkedIn for in-house recruiters at said company. I then send them a short InMail expressing interest in the position. They usually get back to me and provide me with their email address so I can send them my resume.

99% of the time, they tell me to apply online through the job portal as well. I guess that's just a formality for their HR processes. Regardless, after I send them my resume, they'll scan it for fit. If they like what they see, they screen me for a phone interview. If I present myself well, they tend to send the resume to the hiring manager and I go through the process.

Ideally, I'd have a friend in my network who can refer me internally, but if that's not the case, I resort to my tactic above by "breaking in" through an in-house recruiter. I always, always try to get someone internal to the company to pass my resume along. Fuck those resume black holes.

I do not have LinkedIn; hopefully, I will never have to.

I've been editing together a 30-page paper written by four students all day long. Jesus Christ.

What's with the hate for LinkedIn? I think it's very useful for finding people.
