I'm taking it pretty well so far because we're leaving on very good terms. My manager said he'll give me glowing references but wow, did not see this coming at all.

Sigh.

Really sorry to hear that. Best of luck landing something new.

Also, I don't know your financial situation or anything but don't miss out on unemployment because of pride or something. It's a system that you have paid into and should take advantage of. I missed out on a ton of free money once upon a time because I "didn't need it."

Say goodbye to the bean bag chair, brah.

Sorry to hear about the job loss, GF.

That really, really sucks, GF. I hate it for you. I hope you find something new (and better) fast.

Sorry mate, that sucks. Get dat unemployment! I think MA will pay you half your wages for over half a year if you need it...

Does that mean you are back to looking at Chicago? Weather's getting mighty nice...

Thanks for the kind words, all. I've seen so many people come and go through all the re-orgs in my year here, but wow, never thought it would happen to me.

Will definitely be filing for UI. And yes, considering Chicago but also looking at Boston and NYC.

Don't forget DC! So much good food and intelligent, driven young people.

The dating scene is pretty weak though

All the single people I know in DC complain about the dating scene. What's the deal, too many high powered career focused transients who aren't interested in dating?

I think this can be the case. I know several people who have met longtime gf's and wives in DC though. The upshot is that since everyone is so busy there is a lot of online dating going on.

I just found out that someone I worked with a couple of jobs ago was promoted to a major leadership role in the organization.

It pisses me off because she was literally the most inept person I've ever worked with. She started a year after me and was very nearly fired after her probationary period, which is unheard of (they wound up doubling it to give her another chance). She was so bad at her job that we had to reshuffle responsibilities because she couldn't handle the same workload as the rest of us. Our position required working with other people in our department to get them information/analysis, and the people she dealt with used to come to me and complain because her work was so shoddy. About six months ago, she moved laterally to another department in the organization, and I got a text from my former boss joking about how glad he was to be rid of her. In fact, I remember when my former boss promoted into his position (we were at the same level prior and became friends), and the biggest thing he dreaded about the promotion was managing her.

The list goes on and on...

I just don't understand how someone so terrible at their job makes a huge jump while the talented people have to pay their dues.

This is awful. I hate when I have seen this happen.

You don't necessarily have to have been good at your job to tell other people to be good at theirs.
